"Placements now have less effect on your seeding" ... BULL!!!

After reading Riot's "Seeding" post it was suggested that placement matches have so less of an effect on our new ranked division placement and established players will tend to stick around in the same area. Can you please explain how I go from Plat 1 for a good portion of last year and yet find myself in SILVER III (3) now? Come on, wtf is the point here? I ended up in literally 6 games of intentional feeding, raging, afking and constant trolling. Pushed through all of it cause it was stated by Riot that placements aren't nearly as important as previous seasons. I'm not trying to go all emo and complain here, but this is pretty stupid. I didn't forget how to play as I was doing my placements but now I've got to play 100+ games just to get back to where I was last year.

Add to that the fact that my MMR is so high my point gain is minimal... this is foolish. If you're going to change a system that's cool, if you leave it the same that's fine... but for gods' sake don't tell me it's a new system then crush me over the head with the old one.

Looking at your lolking matches is pretty staggering. The elo swing that happens across your 10 games is just absurd. In your first game you're playing with mostly high golds/low plats, and then after your bad luck streak you're getting matched with low silvers. You're dropping like 100 elo for every loss.

"Placements won't affect you as much" my ass. This is ridiculous.

For season 4 I got dropped from Plat 4 to Silver 3, took me exactly 94(52W-42L) Games to get back into Plat. If your MMR gain is high you can easily gain +30 pts per game. This is exactly how it worked last season.

Again, the reason i'm upset is because there was a post by Riot directly where they stated this kind of stuff wouldn't happen. I got unlucky, played well but ended up with afks, trolls and intentional feeders along with a huge list of raging players. I understand it happens (believe me, I've played enough league to understand how bad a lot of people suck in this game), but don't tell me that something is in place to prevent this from happening and then let it happen again.

Also, I'm sorry but even great players end up with win rates at or around 60%, and after the hit that the jungle took (it's so much harder to carry now), I'm in a place that the next 100 or so games are all about just trying to get back to gold... and then there is back to plat, then back up to where I was in plat... and THEN i can try to improve?

I've played league for 5 seasons, I've had these type of trolly/crummy placement matches every single season, I know what they are about. What I'm upset about is that the post stated this would happen anymore.... well it just did.

so im bronze 5, go 8-2 in season placement matches... get ranked bronze 5. nice logic riot.. i could have hit bronze 4 with the win streak i just had, but now i played 7 hours to be bronze 5 with 0 points.. appreciate the hope of getting silver. thanks.

Well from looking at your match history you lost the vast majority of you games. Not to mention riot did mention people are likely to place lower than where they ended last season (as quoted by the first guy to post). Your match history also shows that you have continue to lose games even at S3. Also if your mmr is significantly higher than those you play with than you earn more Lp per win, rather than less. Honestly having been in silver for a good time now, and knowing people who are plat the difference in skill level is pretty high between the two. You should be able to win games and carry yourself out pretty easily if you are actually as far above you rank as you say you are.

I think we can all agree the system for placement matches is very flawed.

lol I won 7 games and still got placed in a lower division ( from mid silver to bronze somehow with a 7-3). You at least had to lose to get lowered. I won 70% of my games and got bitch slapped for starting 2-0 and finishing 7-3. I'm convinced Riot doesn't know wtf they are doing with the ranked system below challenger.

It's garbage. I follow the coach/analyst for Team Liquid's challenger team...dude went 7-3....went from Diamond to silver 3. How the hell does that make sense? Needless to say he was equally as salty.

Blastires1/22/2015, 6:16:08 PM7 votes

Well you ended plat but you were diamond nearly master before that. http://www.lolking.net/summoner/na/23079604 The fact is, nobody ranked up. We all lost A LOT of mmr doing these 10 placement matches. I think it's fair since everybody lost and not just some unlucky guy. But It is not ok for me. I don't mind about myself but you obviously were a diamond 1 and after ONLY 10 matches. You dropped like hell. Now win 10 matches and carry them. And you will only be able to get back in diamond 5. Riot said the effect is less strong but to me it is not.

The 10 placement matches actually have a stronger effect than before. And nobody ranked up with these. There is obviously something wrong.

Kirby cake you lost 338 mmr in one day. It's impossible to win 338 mmr in one day. Conclusion: Placement matches have a stronger effect than 1 entire day of winning streak.

S3 with 4 won placements matches with terribad score = Silver 2

S4 with 7 won placements matches with more than good score = Silver 3

Working as intended.

we figured that everyone should have a fresh opportunity to rise to the top. Because of that, we’re again running a soft reset to player position with the start of the ranked season, meaning you’ll likely place lower than where you ended the previous season

Wrennardx1/22/2015, 6:54:33 AM5 votes

My whole complaint here is that normally I would have waited till the kids, trolls and afks had calmed down at the beginning of the season. However, I like to play League, I do it a lot, with my job is a fun distraction from the crummy stuff I see every day. But don't tell me a system is in place that will reduce the effect of things like trolls/afks and then don't actually implement the system in a meaningful way.

Ánnîe 1/23/2015, 10:52:25 AM5 votes

People aren't understanding why if one person goes 8-2 and someone else goes 8-2 why they're being placed tiers apart. its all about who you end up matched against. obviously if you lose to silver players you will end up in bronze. a plat player shouldn't lose to silver players and the fact that he did really hit his mmr. stop whining and improve. if you were placed bronze 5 you probably deserved it now all of you who are angry about your rank can go and down vote me instead of actually improving your game play. my mains plat and i wouldn't dare touch ranked during the first month on my main regardless of what riot says. This account is already gold and it was a breeze getting there.

Pal20021/23/2015, 6:48:53 AM4 votes

A lot of you guys are thinking about this the wrong way. A new season means a RESET of MMR - the median MMR of all League players is Silver 4-5. If not for the "soft" reset, everyone would be placed silver 4-5 at the beginning of placements and if you go 5-5 (not a streak but WLWLWL etc.) you'll end up silver4 with 0 LP. WIth the soft reset, it just means you start your placements at an MMR higher/lower S4 0LP - the further you're from this point, the higher/lower your starting point is.

For players with mmr below silver 4, a soft reset actually does NOT benefit you at all in getting out of bronze; if you wanted a clean slate, you would've wanted the hard reset which they're not doing anymore.

For players higher than silver 4, you will drop half way between where you're and S4 if you go 5-5; this is intentional for you - how low depends on your matches. As hard as we work for our rank throughout the year, don't think about it as something you keep, everyone drops and are supposed to drop unless you really ace your placements. The highest a challenger player can even place is P1.

TLDR: Placements are still very important. New season means everyone gets closer to S4 0LP. Soft reset just means a different starting place. "Less effect" just means instead of +/- 50 mmr per placement, it's now like 35.

One more thing: Notice I keep saying MMR - Remember your rank/LP is completely cosmetic and tries to conform to your MMR and that you need to drop a whole tier (5 divisions) in MMR before they drop your rank. This will explain the many S5/G5/P5 going positive in placements and still end up lower.

Beerstein1/23/2015, 6:52:03 AM3 votes

They do have less of an impact, but they also reset your MMRs down a TON to the point that it's possible to go 10-0 and land in a lower bracket, so the point is moot. You can either excel in placements to get back to where you were, or lose your way into the depths of bronze.

GoodleShoes1/23/2015, 12:06:48 AM3 votes

So before the preseason ended I worked my way up to bronze 2 from bronze 4. During promos I won 7 out of 10 games with positive k/d and ended up in bronze 4. I really can't tell how discouraging this is. Would the same result happen if I lost all of my games? I worked so hard and even checked out my opponents and teammates and for the most part I was playing with and against silver players... What's even the point of promos if I just end up lower than original even if i do well? I feel like giving up.

WaY2HoT1/23/2015, 10:27:55 AM3 votes

how the hell do you go positive in placements and drop 3 divisions. Riot.... you're doing it wrong

LuckyFriday131/23/2015, 11:01:36 AM3 votes

You worked really hard in placement games, you won 7 out of 10, good job, Here is your punishment, I mean "reward" your bronze 1. So since I went positive in my placement games and yet I'm still dropped Down in placement. So placement games a complete waist of time because all it does is screw you over. Gg, you lose even if you win . Thanks a bunch riot, you just made me so angry I dont even want to play anymore :(

Anatharion1/22/2015, 11:09:26 PM3 votes

I think Riot wanted to increase the time their playerbase was putting into the game. The more games their players play the greater the chance of that player making RP purchases and increasing the revenue generated by Riot.

So they drop everyone down a few big notches and know that people will be playing more to get back to where they belong in the rankings.

Pretty slick, but kinda lame.

Domnomss1/23/2015, 8:54:19 AM3 votes

This is ridiculous, I went 7 wins and 3 losses all as support Karma. I was placed into bronze 1, I'm confused and irritated because for a game I even went against people who were gold in S4. I really would like to know how these games were measured because I seriously did somewhat decent (in my opinion) just to get placed into bronze again. In my ten games I averaged a 3.4/6.9/20 kda (mind this is ALL support) and I totaled 34/69/200 in my ten games. I'm not saying that I should of gotten placed in plat or anything, but I really think I shouldnt of been put into bronze.
