I want to make a max ap item build because...karthus. that means just saying "veigar" IS NOT a valid answer In addition, it doesn't have to be particularly viable as long as it has the maximum AP thanks <3

just straight ap? 5 death caps and 1 spellbinder.

I think that's the maximum amount of AP you can get through items. Rabadon's Deathcap and Spellbinder both have 120 ap, but Spellbinder gives you 10% movement speed in addition to the 4 second 80 ap boost it offers, so it's usually better. One Rabadon's is necessary because of it's passive, Rabadon's Deathcrown is preferable because of the 175 ap. A fully stacked Mejai's gives you an additional 145 ap.

In total that's 1232 ability power.

At level 18 and with no other sources of mana, item 3040 gives Karthus 121.6 AP. With item 3041 and Manaflow Band, that becomes 135.1 AP. Add in the rest of your build, minus the Deathcrown upgrade and plus double Adaptive Force and 30 min Gathering Storm, that’s 1296.5 AP. If you swap one of the Spellbinders for a item 3135 , it becomes 1226.5 AP, which is a rather marginal decrease compared to how much the penetration amps damage output.

So, OP, if you’re looking for a build where you maximize the amount of damage your ult alone does, here you go: item 3040 item 3041 item 3907 item 3089 item 3135 . Don’t forget to pop the Spellbinder active at 100 stacks before channeling!

But if you want to do the most ult damage period, you’ll want to swap that last Spellbinder for a item 3151 and then go suicide into the enemy team. The damage amp is significant, and the %HP damage is also very strong through the shred from Wall of Pain + Void Staff. If you play it right, you’ll get your Mejai’s stacks back, too.

If you want max AP (but an actual non-viable normal build) you use transcendence with the scaling CDR on a mana-based champion: item 3374 item 3040 item 3041 item 3285 item 3907 item 2139
