AP based characters and their AA

Hello, League community!

After playing Smite for the past 5 years I've finally decided to come over to LoL I absolutely love the game WAAAY more than I can explain! However, in my past two weeks of playing (level 15 atm) I'm pretty confused about Ability Based characters and their Auto Attacks...If that makes sense?

In Smite, Magical characters have their AA scaled off Magical Items, in this game it doesn't work the same way, so how would I scale my auto-attack while building ability power items? Am I looking for passives with these effects or am I stacking a ton of ability power?

I know that if I choose an Ability Based characters I shouldn't worry about my AA damage but at the same time I don't want it to be too low and I also know I shouldn't waste a slot on an AD item for my AP character (unless the game suggests it then I'll do otherwise) My question is how would I fix that? Forgive me if I'm not making sense or if I used any of the terms wrong, I'm trying my best to learn everything haha.

Thanks in advance! ( If there's a link that will also answer my question I'm cool with that too!)

That's part of the balancing for AP mages. farming with your auto attacks is going to be very difficult because of their terrible auto attacks. You'll just have to get better at the timing, or buy some mana/pick some runes that increase your mana and use your skills.

Some AP champs can effectively use and build item 3146 which will help you a little bit. Mordekaiser is a champ whose auto attacks actually gain damage while building AP like characters in SMITE so you might want to look into him as well

item 3146 item 3100 item 3115

Specifically the third one, Nashor's Tooth.

Akali Bard Chogath KogMaw Kayle Lux Lulu Mordekaiser Orianna Neeko Kennen Sona Teemo TwistedFate Azir

These champs all do a lot of magic damage and like to auto attack.

Azir Teemo Kayle KogMaw These are all champs that rely on attack speed and/or ability power scaling their on-hit damage.

Orianna Mordekaiser

These two scale their autos with ability power, but outside of lane, they make less use of it.

However, this game is poorly designed around reaching a 'critical mass' in a set of stats on most champs.

You either want to maximize AP at the cost of everything else, maximize crit usage at the cost of high AD, maximize AD, or maximize EHP.

There's almost no alternatives unless you're a bruiser, which is kind of a weak class unless they get ahead early with a few exceptions. And tanks almost don't work, so forget about the EHP thing. And then there's supports, which kinda just spend gold. Doesn't really matter what you spend it on overall.

#PLEASE JUST SAVE YOURSELF. UNINSTALL NOW. THIS GAME IS NO LONGER GOOD. ITS ONLY POPULAR BECAUSE IT WAS EXTREMELY POPULAR WHEN IT USED TO DESERVE IT, MUCH LIKE THE CURRENT STATE OF WORLD OF WARCRAFT. PEOPLE ARE JUST ADDICTED AND DON'T WANT TO ADMIT ITS SHIT NOW THAT THEY'VE SPENT ALMOST A DECADE OR MORE WITH IT.

Don't bother. As an AP character in league you barely use basic attacks, except for early poke/last hitting. There are some exception, but those will have AP scaling on their basic attacks.
