Idk. I couldn't find any good oak countertops.
He isn't that great of a dualist. If you pick a hardcore dualist like Irelia. He can't fully shut down a Jax, Nasus, or Tryndamere and they will likely be a big pain in the ass for his team to deal with later.
J4 can bully Maokai fairly well and has a similar teamfight ability if played well. If you try to pick ranged mages vs. him you generally won't win. Also if you pick another tank into him like Mundo or Malphite, Maokai will likely just outscale you utilitywise between his mass amounts of CC and ultimate making his entire team tankier.
I wouldn't suggest common "tank slayer" ADCs like Kog Maw and Vayne only because he can lock them down and be a pain in the ass to deal with if he gets in range, especially if his team can follow up his snare onto them at all.
can't say for sure, but I think Gangplank's kit gives you a good deal of counter play with cc removal and higher mana sustain.
Anything fast will counter Maoki
A top lane tank, will never have pressure at top lane.
So if your mid laner has decent wave clear, and your jungler / top are strong fighters that can also split push. GG.
Also. There are champions we call tank killers. Jarvans dragon strike (removes armor) Kogmaw Corki Vi (also penetrates armor)
True damage cough ahri
Maoki doesn't do much damage.

There is a teamfight where Maoki and Allistar jump onto ashe Ashe still dies, but it takes awhile
Yeah, basically, don't take another tank vs a Maokai. Lane bullies who can kill him before he gets his first item (which is almost always a ROA) will really help suppress his power. If he falls behind, he usually has a pretty hard time getting back into the game until well after laning phase. He will never be totally useless though, because of his huge utility. If he gets one successful team fight where his ult scores him a ton of assists, he can get caught up relatively quickly. Nasus works particularly well against him, because, even though Maokai won't get bullied out of lane by him, Nasus will out scale him later and gets to have a safer than average lane phase. Try to pick split pushing champions, like Nidalee and Nasus, because Maokai is a pretty awful duelist and usually can do nothing to stop a strong split pusher.
olaf is surprisingly effective. must be the axes. axes are good against trees
There are a group of top laners that simply "occupy" the lane and make it a different game.
Maokai, Singed, Malphite, and a few others that basically exist to be 0/30/0 and just farm in lane until team fight time.
You can't play the lane like a mid or bot where you attempt to kill the enemy, you have to focus on either getting the turret or csing more than them.
The more you try to go for the kill on tanks, the more you will find 80% of the damage done to you was the jungler or a turret.
Watching http://www.lolking.net/replay/na/1581810068, it looks like Cass works well if you can play her.
I've had a lot of luck with ryze
Top Brand sounds like it'd be annoying
