You will gain and lose LP like before however the season resets around the end of the year so any rank you gain won't affect the coming season so if you get GOLD you won't be gold season 7. HOWEVER, during your climb in preseason your MMR is increasing. Why does this matter, you ask? Let's say you're BRONZE but climb to GOLD or higher in preseason then your MMR is that of a GOLD+ so your provisionals will reflect your MMR and the more likely you'll be placed higher. Obviously this is also dependent on your performance in the 10 games. However the chances are better since you'll be placed with high MMR people who might have better game mechanics and might not have the mentality of the people of lower ELO.
