Can we talk about the Honor system?

Ok so I have a gripe with the honor system and no, it isn't "It takes too long to level up". It should take a while to level up so taht when you see a level 5 you think "Wow this person must be really nice". But....it won't and here why.

It's based off of games played not honors.

And yes I know that honor does forward your progress but even Riot says every time you get honored that it is a small amount of progress.If you have more time on your hands and play more games and don't say anything all game you will progress faster than someone with not a lot of time but is very charismatic and fun to play with. This is bad. It has the same problem as the Champion Mastery system. It doesn't reward being a nice player just like the Champion System doesn't reward you for being a skilled player (Until you hit level 5 and actually need to play well to get level 6 and 7). As much that I hate the Mastery system and how its calculated on games won and not skill; that isn't the topic of this discussion.

Now I can understand why they made honor not give much progress. It's because there are only 4 people on your team and they all only have 1 honor to give and if there are multiple people being honorable in a match it comes down to chance if the person will honor you and you progress or if they wont and you will be stuck where you started. That sounds like a shitty system in of itself but there is an easy solution.

Bring back Honorable Opponent

I don't see why Riot removed it. It was the only honor people used before the update and they removed it which befuddles me. Or hell give 2 honors to teammates and they can only give one honor per Summoner if you really don't want to bring back Honorable Opponent.

The other flaw with the system is the bonus you get if all of your teammates honor. I am sure every one has been in the situation where a toxic teammate doesn't honor anyone and then you lose out on that bonus. Your progression in this system shouldn't be hindered by toxic players I think we can all agree on that. Albeit the bonus is small it is still better than nothing.

These are some pretty bad problems with the system and I hope Riot changes them in the future and don't ignore it like they did with Champion Mastery because in its current state Honor will be forgotten just as easily as before the update.

i actually hate it when people attention whore for honor.

why should someone who doesnt type AT ALL in chat and only focuses on the game while communicating with pings get honored less than someone who constantly spams the chat with "positive messages" because he wants to draw attention from people to get honored?

you can do all the things that are worthy of honor without typing a single word in chat. you can be tilt proof when under pressure, you can make good calls or generally play well enough for people to give a gg.

i actually had to mute people because of their constant pretentous behaviour and how distracting the chat spam was. also stopped giving honor, because this entire system seems like a popularity contest where people actually fall for the guys who keep nonstop talking and dont recognize the silent players.

the rare occations now when im giving honor its usually to people who focused on the game, stayed silent and didnt beg for it, and generally did something notable.

I agree it does get very irritating but there's nothing Riot can do against that. The Shot calling honor is there and that's the best Riot can do really.

I have actually STOPPED talking in chat to avoid doing this. I was a pretty talkative friendly person in the chat before this system, but now being friendly is considered begging for honor. Its kinda sad really.

Not really.

Unless you're giving the impression that you're not paying attention to the game or that you're a cocky person, it shouldn't pose a problem afaik.

there may be some flaws with the new system but this new system has tremendously increase my enjoyment of the game. and i just spent $50 on RP just to show riot how much i love the new honor system. i also got my first 3x honor last game

and EVERY nidalee game i have played this month (so far) i have gotten an S on because i have had teammates who didnt rage who were friendly.. and who worked as a team.

this is the happiest i have been playing league since nidalee's rework in 4.10. and it BECUASE of how good the honor system is... is it perfect? no... but its damn near to it. and it had made this game so much more enjoyable i HAD to thank riot. and the best way i knew how to do that was with $$$.

Try looking at it without rose tinted glasses. Yes it is better than the old system. Yes it makes people be more positive (trust me no one will give a fuck in a month and go back to normal after they realize how little progression they get from honors). But the cons are big cons. Flaws that anyone could see from a mile away and still made it through play testing.

I think of it as less of an incentive for me to be really nice as it is an incentive for players who may default into toxic behavior to avoid doing so.

What about the fact that I've gotten 6 key fragments and no chests since the release? Are they gonna figure out a way to balance it out, or am I just doomed to have nothing but keys? I've been trying to grind my champion Mastery scores, but if I'm never getting a chest I'll just give up until it's fixed and go play some other game.

That's not broken that's the way it's supposed to be. Riot is a company and companies need to make money. Doing things for the fans is great and all but they need to make money. If you got equal amount of chests and keys every month no one would buy skins. No one buy skins means no money for Riot.

I spend plenty of money on this game regardless. If they're gonna have a loot system as a means of in-game reward it's stupid if the reward is useless. Especially since the loot system is required to grind up the Mastery score. I have two champs currently waiting on the blue essence to upgrade (and a bunch of others close), but since I no longer get chests from S games, and haven't gotten any from the new system yet, I've stagnated and don't really want to play as much anymore.
