Really sucks how your XP gain gets cut massively if you lose a game, 55 minutes for 140 XP

So...I can't check for sure from home, but judging on your account level and what happened, I have a guess. As Full Brain pointed out, that 55 min match should grant you 302 base xp.

However, the system is set up so that you can only level once per game. So if you were very low level (pre 10), and already close to leveling, and running boosts, then it's possible you missed out on some XP. If that's what happened, sorry about that!

Also, totally don't mind helping...but that hostility makes it hard to want to do so :(

OP is kind of rude, but if that actually can happen - especially to someone who purchased a boost, which costs actual money - then maybe this should be dealt with.

They have a right to be mad. They do not have the right to be rude and crude.

Not rude calling out incompetence for what it is, especially when it fucks up someone leveling up because a god awful policy is in place for whatever braindead reason to forces XP cuts whenever people lose.

ModAcademy Kayn8 votes

You didn't get XP cut when you lost. You were just limited from leveling up twice from the same game. Is this reasonable, you can argue that day or night. But that doesn't excuse being rude. You're responsible for your own actions. Seems you were warned by a Mod about it too.

ShroomMaster4 votes

Actually that's not true about the XP, if the problem was just him not being allowed level up twice then it would still show this 300Xp people are somehow claiming he'd have gotten.

The XP gain showed in your match history can very well exceed the total you have in a level or 2, you just won't get a portion of it because you're not allowed to level up twice

ModAcademy Kayn2 votes

I don't think I said you still didn't get the EXP, just said you can't get two levels at once. Unless I messed something up.

Yes, it actually is rude to “call out” something, especially when you of all people are in no position to determine their competence.

I understand the frustration, sure enough, but come on bruv.

This is just like the guy who gets called out by multiple people for smacking at the table during mealtime, but adamantly insists that he's not actually doing so.

Don't be like that guy.

What is the point of that mechanic?

ShroomMaster6 votes

Force people to grind more games to pad Riot's numbers.

Gotta have people playing moregames and getting frustrated with the horrifically slow progress so they buy boosts to hit 30 and unlock the actual full game experience.

Tomoe Gozen1 votes

You don't have to buy a single boost in order to reach level 30. Riot considerably lowered the leveling curve (by half what it was usually required years ago) but they also put in safeguards to prevent smurfs from grinding out levels in a matter of few hours/a day. This makes sure that both parties (people who casually play a few games a day and smurfs), don't have two massively different experiences in terms of account EXP progress.

You're still going to get more experience if you play more games than the average player but the difference isn't going to be miles apart. It's not about keeping you playing for longer because if you already want to level to 30, it is assumed you want Ranked or to keep playing for longer. So no, Riot's not forcing you to sit at your computer for hours on end in order to "fully" experience League.

And remember, Runes are no longer account level restricted. You can use a full page from level 1.

kEhJWebb1 votes

What lies are you talking about? Available from level one? You mean the presets? The presets that nobody except the assassins and ADCs like because the options are limited and tend to be inneffective?

You actually unlock being able to make full pages at level 15, wtf are you trying to lie about here?

Tomoe Gozen1 votes

You actually unlock being able to make full pages at level 15, wtf are you trying to lie about here?

No, you don't. The whole point about the new rune system was to remove the level 30 account lockout for full rune pages, earning 1 slot per level. I'm not talking about the presets. Presets allow you to actually play the game with a full rune page that, in all situations for the vast majority of champions, cover the most basic options for a wide variety of classes.

Even if you're playing your champion suboptimally, Runes are actually quite a significant power budget for champions so it stands to reason Riot is not allowing you to go into a game without a single rune page equipped. And for the level 15 part, this allows you to actually learn about your given selection of rune pages as a new player instead of immediately being burdened to sink time into understanding a system you don't know how it even interacts with any of the champions - speaking from a new player standpoint.

Which means, the entire reworked runes and your profile experience is geared towards new player experience instead of smurfs who would just want to power through the leveling and stomp players who don't even understand the game yet.

The exact reward is posted on each game in my match history, including XP from missions, and it isn't effected at all by your horrible can't level up twice rule. All I got for that 55 minute match was a pathetic 140 XP and you fucking know that as much as I do.

So save your "oh but you're being a meany" line of shit for the dumbass sheep you herd around, we both know you assholes at Riot made sure this shit happens for whatever braindead reason you came up with around a bong and dart board.

I think he's saying that the amount you gain might be gated by the amount needed to level and not reach the next level, which I do agree is a little weird -- if that were the case, I'd expect it to stop you 1 XP short of the next level.

Maybe we could get some context on this, is there a reason other than possibly to keep players from gaining too much exp from a game?

Sure.

When developing the new leveling system last year, we were left with a tough decision. For 99.9% of players, it was impossible to level more than once in a game (even in a 60+ minute game running BOTH boosts and with bonus mission XP). But in the absolute WORST case (Level 1, same conditions) it was actually possible to level up 7 times (Level 1 to 8). The amount of development time to get the end of game ceremony to support 7 levels ups wasn't worth just how not-very-often it happens. So in the case where you would level up twice, we lower you to 1 XP short of the next level.

It's a not ideal trade off, but part of game development is making hard decisions like this. For how unlikely this is to happen looking at the numbers, I think we made the right call and I'd make it again. It impacts low level smurfs, and the impact is quite minor (a game worth of XP at most).

Velzard of Koz9 votes

Couldn't you just make XP bank? If XP overflows over desired value (such like player would level-up multiple times), store it into XP bank, then next like 10 games each will provide 10% of the bank. So it doesn't give Yp bursts while simultaneously no XP is lost. Which is especially imortant If someone buys the XP boost.

rujitra2 votes

Or, even this:

XP gained that game reduced to 1 XP below the second level gain, extra XP added to bank. Every game after that where XP gain is less than 2 levels would take from the bank to increase to 1 XP less than the second level gain. Games that were more than 2 levels would follow the same thing - reduce to 1 below second level and add to the bank.

Tomoe Gozen1 votes

Then you're potentially running into things where you can just bank EXP and never run out of it, making it impossible to use it all. And that would make people mad anyway since they would look at it as if Riot put that EXP in a trust fund and you can't take it out when you need it. And then you can still run into the same problem of getting close to leveling the second time and that a part of that 10% stored EXP (plus your got EXP), getting stored again in the bank.

In any case, the situation is still the same no matter the implementation.

This exemplifies where League has been heading for the last few years pretty well. You recognize a problem, but rather than put in the time and effort to correct that problem or apply an appropriate method to handle it, you instead opt for the easier and short-sighted response of just cutting it off at the knees. Then, you tell anyone that has an issue with it that it was a "hard decision, but deal with it." This isn't an unintended casualty due to an unforeseen issue with how the system was set up. This was a deliberate choice to frustrate the customer experience, break expectations, and lower the value of purchased services for the sake of making things easier for the design/coding teams.

Of course, then you contradict this mentality with your precious Mission and Mastery systems giving me 10 popup notifications after every game that I have to individually address before I can queue again. So it seems you're only willing to put in the effort for the systems you care about.

Another poster suggested a simple "experience bank" that would keep track of overflow experience, but I would have gone a step further. Since you were already reworking the system and discovered this issue, you could have set things up in such a way that the game keeps track of an account's level while the player themselves could "redeem" their experience in their own time to claim level-up rewards. This lets players decide when they want to deal with the system while still allowing the account to reflect its level virtually, ensuring they're matched in-game appropriately.

But I guess that's asking too much, isn't it.

He used XP boosts (that are paid content) to get more XP and you capped it because of an unspoken (and pretty pointless) rule... Hostility is justified here

AXayahAccount1 votes

Question though, that makes sense that you can't level twice from one game but what if you are like 99% of the way to a level up, shouldn't the experience carry over. On the off chance you would have leveled twice shouldn't it be 99.9% of the next level. So for example from level 20 99% to level 21 99%? or level 20 50% to level 21 23% or something like that, to be more realistic.

Honestly, you guys are destroying the company with your intolerable decisions, but since most people are addicted to this game it's dying slowly. You guys also refuse to release player numbers. Wonder why??

Don't assume this is only aimed at you, this is aimed at almost ALL OF THE RIOT EMPLOYEES! Your balance team is stuck up pricks who think they are a beautiful artist while they throw paint bombs in peoples faces and get mad when we complain about the pain and agony from their terrible balancing.

true but remember the argument is that for literally almost quadruple the time for him to get 140 exp, he got just as much simply for getting 1 single win. thats a bit too stingy IMHO.

Semi-related: My Wifi failed in my last match and then the client refused to reconnect (internet was fine, I checked other devices) and I recoonnected after 4-5 minutes. By then the system already detected me as AFK and I got a total of ZERO!!! EXP. What is even better is that I made the enemy support AFK when I grabbed him twice consecutively. Then I grabbed him right as he showed in lane, so basially I carried that game in less than 4 minutes.

And then I got NO REWARD.

And riot, and some gamers still wonder why people afk in a game that's a loss. It's literally not worth wasting yoru time to play out.. Why is not worth the time? because of how snowbally the game is...

Algido3 votes

Riot has proven itself more than enough times to be severely lacking in integrity in all areas from basic game development, to player support flat out LYING to players, to not following through with implementing countless changes they've promised, to having a rigged hextech reroll system... This is just par for the course.

The whole reason for League of Legends existence is to make money. Why wouldn't they constantly use underhanded tactics? Does anyone actually believe that the big-wig reds at Tencent care more about the players than they do about the insane amount of money they are pulling in?

The solution is simple. Stop spending money on this video game. When income decreases, quality increases. (Assuming that they wouldn't just let the game die... which doesn't seem too unlikely, actually)
