Can we please do something about Thresh?

I am tired of seeing thresh in almost every single game I play. Riot seems to have this idea that thresh is balanced because he has a high skillcap and makes flashy plays. What they seem to forget is that his hitboxes are massive, the utility is insane (along with the ability to chain cc for a very long time just by hitting one Q). On top of that, he can zone you for free with the threat of a hook, completely negate ganks with lantern and flay (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCe2F8mZPCo) and can't be bursted down if you focus him instead of the ADC because he isn't squishy.

I would also like to point out that he currently has the third highest pick rate in the game ( ~29% behind lucian who seriously needs a nerf and ezreal who is getting one next patch). He is ubiquitous among all elos especially for people who can't play support very well. It's not like picking blitzcrank or sona where you have to be careful which team comp to pick him into. Thresh can be blind picked into anything. Even his counters can't stop him from being useful the way some supports like sona are bad against some team comps.

I'm not asking for a massive overhaul of the kit or for him to be "Olaf'd" but seriously there needs to be something done about this. It should take actual practice with a champion to be good at them. But with thresh, anybody can hit a hook because of the range, generosity of the hitbox, and lack of clarity for the enemy team. It's time to stop assuming Thresh takes serious skill just because Madlife and Hylissang and all of the great Thresh players make impressive plays.

So if any Riot Employee sees this, I am hoping that you please nerf thresh. Or at the very least, I would like an explanation as to why nothing is being done about this.

You will never convince anyone with a modicum of intelligence that Thresh is easy to play. According to every high elo (master and challenger) player he is THE hardest support to play correctly. In fact, played at an average level he is WORSE than most other supports.

He might have a play rate of 29%, he has a winrate well below 50%.

You're grasping at straws.

I already said I'm not master or challenger and your claim about them saying he is the hardest has no basis (my guess is that champions like bard would get way more votes in that straw poll).

And the fact that you (I checked your rank and it says that you are silver 2) are trying to dismiss my claim with flaming and with pointing out that I'm not "high elo" is more of a disservice to your argument. Winrate also doesn't dictate the skill of a champion and riot has said this on many occasions. Ask any of those "high elo" players about the (currently) 57% winrate runic echoes udyr. I can already say having watched both imaqtpie and nightblue's streams that neither of them think udyr is a particularly good champion.

Champions have been nerfed in the past for similar things. Nidalee got reworked because her damage was frontloaded onto her Q same way Thresh gets to control you for 4-5 seconds if he hits one measly Q. Poppy's ult got nerfed last patch because she was able to fully lock you up for a similar amount of time (on top of her high damage, the slow on the Q afterwards, and the inability to run away with gap closers in the first place).

I already said he doesn't need to be nerfed like Olaf was. But there needs to be something done about this generalist pick that can be picked safely by anyone especially if they don't have many games on him.

I'm finished wasting my time on you. I would just like some Riot person to see this thread and give me at least a good explanation (if they aren't going to nerf him which it doesn't look like it any time soon).

Bard's pretty easy. The only complication he has is understanding when it's safe to roam and when you're needed in lane. Other than that it's just lining up shots, and if you play pool then you're already used to looking for those kinds of lines anyways. Losing with Bard is pretty rare.

LOL. He never said you were low ELO. He said that that's what he's read (assuming he read it) high ELO players say. In fact, he never addressed your ELO once in what I read. You're just on here to argue with people aren't you? (this is verified by the part where you tried to change it to an udyr discussion in the 2nd paragraph. You wouldn't have deferred like that if you felt like your original complain was going well. The udy comment was just an attempt to keep people going back and forth with you)

I'm not here to argue. I simply want a justification because I really am tired of seeing thresh support in the majority of my games. Thresh was nerfed heavily in season 3 (I think it was 3, may have been 4, don't quote me on it). But even after all of those nerfs he is still a staple in solo queue and it is still ridiculous that he can walk up to you and zone you with the threat of a hook whereas jumping into his face means getting a flay and eventually a box or a lantern if you jump on the adc (oh and still probably a hook but at least he has nothing left after).

The point about udyr was simply to show that winrate doesn't dictate OPness or deserving of a nerf, nor does everything have to be based solely on the whims of high elo streamers.

I admit my argument isn't perfect but so what? When all the pros picked azir in the LCS, he still had a shitty winrate in solo queue. Even though he is super hard to play, everybody picked him anyway. Before you tell me I'm deferring again I'll bring that back to thresh. Almost everybody who watches Madlife's thresh loves the flashy plays that he makes seem so trivial. But he has constantly practiced the champion so in my opinion he deserves to hit those max range hooks and such. Noobs who have almost no thresh games (like me) should not be allowed to have such high impacts in games.

I love playing J4 support, because if you get anywhere near my carry, I WILL FKN JUST DELETE YOU

But seriously, thresh isnt op. I will admit he is very very strong, but in no way in need of a nerf

He also already requires souls to be tanky, he doesnt get armor per level like everyone else, just looked into it also he doesnt even get mr per level

I would rather they buff the other supports to his level.

Nerfing Thresh would just lower the bar for support power even more.

So a Thresh went to hook me for a kill, but i listed lazily to the left and he missed

He's been go to support for like 2 seasons now

Thresh has been nerfed several times since the day of that play in the video you posted, lol.

Stop whining about champs you're not good enough to play. It's Azir syndrome. Besides, it's 90% Soraka, Janna and Poppy support in all of my games, I barely see Thresh.

Also if you hate him so much, ban him.

"Thresh has been nerfed several times since the day of that play in the video you posted, lol."

Yes and that hasn't stopped people from playing him the same way nerfs to other supports like blitzcrank.

"Stop whining about champs you're not good enough to play. It's Azir syndrome. Besides, it's 90% Soraka, Janna and Poppy support in all of my games, I barely see Thresh."

As I pointed out his play rate is 29% (based on champions.gg) which means 3 out of every 10 games has a thresh (but I look at my match history and I see 6 out of my last 20 which is less than usual for me but still alot). I myself have played some thresh games in solo queue and have done way better than I should because although I am not a mid main, he is just so easy to play. I admit I'm plat elo but that doesn't change the fact that he is played at every elo regardless of skill with him.

"Also if you hate him so much, ban him."

The new system dictates that at most I will only get one ban. The problem with banning thresh is that there are SO MANY BROKEN CHAMPIONS right now that no matter what I ban, something broken will almost always get picked by the other team.

cuddlykitten43 votes

So you kind of struck me as the type of person who would lie if you thought it would help you win so I looked into you. First off, you're not plat, you're gold. Second off, I went back literally as far as 3/9/2015 and you have not played a single thresh game. So please enlighten me, how does one win Thresh games with a Thresh that they have never played? (Take your time on this response, I want a really creative lie this time :D )

aaeyo1 votes

Plat last season and plat 4 on another account (midgitman if you're interested). Never said I played it this season just said I've played in the past (I avoid support avidly and prefer to play other supports when I have to like Leona because playing OP picks just for the sake of winning games is no fun to me).

KVbqbFsC8e1 votes

He'd need a full rework to not be considered a top tier support given his ridiculously overloaded kit.

aaeyo1 votes

Definitely don't want that. His kit (although broken) is unique and fun. If I were in charge, I'd raise the cd on Q and decrease the range and hitbox on it. I'd also take away some tank stats so that he relies on souls to be tanky.

Oh yea....forgot that Thresh existed. Kinda miss that hooker. Might have to play him later.
