The need to change Exhaust.
So, let me begin by saying that I'm A) a support main, and B) not personally highly ranked, I'm sure someone will ask me both of those at some point but now that's out of the way. The thing is, every single summoner in the game does one primary thing. Clarity, Ghost, Heal, Barrier, Heal, Cleanse, Smite, Teleport, and Ignite all do the one (emphasis on one, regardless of how many people it affects; disregarding movespeed on heal and the various smite types depending on jg items) thing they were designed to (ignoring Mark because ARAMS don't exist). Exhaust comparatively does four things (AS, DMG, SPD, DEF debuff) and is on a shorter or equal cooldown than most of the other summoner spells used often in today's meta.
Now I see what you're going to say, "The other Summs scale with champion level so it all works out, right?", and no, that's not right since Exhaust doesn't do a flat amount of any one debuff (except in the flat 10 armor and mr reduction), it instead removes a certain percent of the victim champions' stats thus 'scaling' with the opponents items and, naturally, level (since unless you sit in fountain all game you gain items as you level via farming). So I propose three things to alleviate the menace of exhaust:
-
just nerf exhaust. A timer increase to at least that of Heal (240s) would feel at least a little better, especially since most supports use the mastery that reduces summoner spell cooldowns.
-
Separate the debuffs into two separate spells (SPD + DEF, AS + DMG) and force whoever takes them to think about the situation rather than just taking a summoner that ends all summoners.
-
Make a counter exhaust that's only usable on an ally, not on yourself. That would reduce the risk to your carry, create opportunities for the user to fight (situationally of course), and it would also prevent characters like Tryndamere from running off and giving themselves a godlike boost to stats.
I understand that the amounts buffed vs. debuffed would need to be adjusted, but Exhaust as it is right now doesn't allow for much counterplay in any lane except bot because there are two people there. I'm in no way saying exhaust should be removed, it is very much a tool that is necessary, and I'm not saying there aren't ways around it (here's to you Quicksilver Sash however when one summoner spell negates an enemy and causes a loss if someone on your team doesn't have it, then it in turn feels clunky and unavoidable. I would love to debate this so if anyone has another opinion, I would be more than happy to talk about it.
Thank you for your time,
