New champions & reworks

So what's the deal with giving every new champion overloaded kits?

I feel like every new champ or rework they remove any clear weaknesses. Heck, they don't even get punished for making a small missplay or overstaying. They've got so many effects on every ability that it no longer matters if you screw up. Whilst older champions have just this 'deal X dmg'. Overloading stuff is not fun to play against at all. How have they not realised this. Do riot testers or employees even play older champs anymore? Not every ability needs to be unique when it gets released. But when a new champ gets released I need to take a 15-20 minute read through their abilities. Every new champ or rework has to OUTDO the previous one. With more and more effects. At this rate you'll need to become a rocket scientist to even understand half of what these champions can do.

What happened to 'keep it simple'?

overdesigned kits age better than underdesigned ones, look at kennen and morg for examples.

Keeping it simple means you end up reproducing the same thing over and over. Is that any better? And we have to make a distinction between overloaded and overtuned. Overloaded means that a champ is given a lot of tools and honestly is just a kneejerk term. A lot of kits in the game are versatile, it's how league works. Camille has a very versatile kit but isn't overtuned. Renekton has a versatile kit but isn't broken. Numbers are mostly able to keep those kits on a leash. Irelia's numbers on launch were insane, but then some effects were removed, her damage reduction nerfed slightly, and there you go, the champ behaves the same in terms of mechanics but isn't an autowin anymore. The problem lies with most older champs being more or less variations of some very basic concepts. They have nothing that makes them functionally unique, no niche, so when something comes out that outperforms them in some area they are immediately out the window. Look at dota 2 for a masterclass in gameplay design. Most characters can be drafted with success because different characters can perform differently in ways that can benefit their team, even if they might seem broken out of context.
