This. Also, Zhonyas helps mages buy a few extra seconds to get their spells off CD.

Autos dont really have the same lockout as spells, so a mage can blow their rotation in the middle of a team fight, and then Zhonyas while theyre immobile and helpless but an ADC is never really "helpless" as they have an infinite source of DPS ... Except the guy with a double-barrel shotgun or a magic handgun.
