Some suggestion to balance Master Yi.

MasterYi

As we all know, Master Yi is going through bad times. He has had problems with all his abilities for some time and it seems like Riot couldn't fix it yet. So i'll give them some suggestions to balance it. I've been thinking in some changes that could be pretty nice in Master Yi. He is a champion that is too predictable, it is viable only in the jungle and moreover it is a weak option at the moment. thinking about it, I came up with some conclusions that would be very good and that could put him on an equal footing with other champions.

First of all, Master Yi's Q could be a great skill but the damage, cooldown and mana cost of this ability makes it an outdated skill that only serves to kill minion and dodge other skills. Using this skill to damage an enemy is a waste of time and mana and it makes Master Yi impracticable in lane. His W isn't a bad skill but the fact that it scales with ap, weakens this ability. I think wuju style is the least problematic skill, so I just made a change. Last but not least, Highlander has a cooldown too high and its passive and active don't worths it. So I found some solutions for it.

[Q - Alpha Strike] - Cost: keep what's in the PBE (70/ 75/ 80/85/ 90).

Master Yi teleports to strike up to 4 enemies, dealing 25/60/95/130/165 -> 80/ 100/ 120/ 150/ 185 (OBS: It don't need to be these exact values, it's just a suggestion) (+100% -> 110% AD) physical damage, with an additional 75/100/125/150/175 damage to minions and monsters. During Alpha Strike Master Yi is untargetable.Alpha Strike can critically strike, dealing an additional 60% Attack Damage physical damage. Basic attacks lower the cooldown of Alpha Strike by 1 second.

[W - Meditate] - Cooldown: Reduce this from 35 to 25.

Master Yi channels, restoring 30/50/70/90/110 (+25% Ability Power -> 25% Attack Damage) Health per second for 4 seconds. This healing is increased by 1% for every 1% of Master Yi's missing Health. While channeling, Master Yi reduces incoming damage by 50/55/60/65/70%. This damage reduction is halved against turrets. In addition, Master Yi will gain stacks of Double Strike and pause the remaining duration on Wuju Style and Highlander for each second he channels.

[E - Wuju Style].

Passive: Grants 10% -> 15% Attack Damage. Active: Basic attacks deal 14/23/32/41/50 (+35% Attack Damage) bonus true damage for 5 seconds. Afterwards the passive bonus is lost while Wuju Style is on cooldown.

[R - Highlander] - Cooldown: Keep it in 85s.

Passive: Champion kills and assists reduce the remaining cooldown of Master Yi's basic abilities by (from 70% to 100%). Active: Increases Movement Speed by 25/35/45%, Attack Speed by 30/55/80%, and grants immunity to slows for 7 seconds. While active, champion kills and assists extend the duration of Highlander by 7 seconds.

I don't believe that these raw stat buffs to his Kit is going to solve much. This only increases stomping ability and to get ahead rather than making a solution for what you said "Predictable" as he is. His kit is too linear to be in a good place with all of the new champions running around, and buffing what he already has isn't the way to go about it.

In my opinion, i think changes like these would make him absurd, as i know limitations of this champion and think this would be unfair overall. His Q is meant to be low damage at early ranks because you are meant to rank it up first, i do agree with the W change however, in no world that somebody builds AP on Master Yi aside from Guinsoo's and simply makes the ability lack luster. The E is in my opinion the problem, but i've already done a discussion about that. Tl;dr A waste of an ability and needs to be impactful and provide room for opportunities and decision making.

The R change makes him like pre-rework Katarina and i do not agree with it. It can easily get out of hand with changes like these.

Master Yi does not need raw buffs, he needs more options.

His meditate should decrease, rather than increase his armor. He already goes invincible every time he presses Q, and gets slow immunity, he doesn't need near invincibility while meditating. That's too many ways to avoid damage. You can make it so meditate restores some mana on use instead.

The point of his role is to be able to fight and survive skirmishes. Most champions in that role harbor some form of defensive option, for example, Yasuo W, Jax E, Riven W and E, Fiora W and it goes on. The point of this ability is to help them survive, slow immunity is irrelevant and is integral to his kit, and he is vulnerable to slows without his ultimate more so than any other champion due to his only escape tool being his Ultimate while his Q is very limited (The only time it'll work effectively if it's Krugs hopping) due to it's long animation.

And you should also know, it does not increase his armor, he gains Damage Reduction similar to Warwick. Theres also the fact that this ability has flaws, it puts him still, vulnerable to CC and is a sitting duck while doing so, the heal is negligible and is on a 35 Second Cooldown.

His Q is an essential part to his role and kit because he is a skirmisher/fighter/assassin type, saying that he can avoid damage is like saying that because Sejauni can Q away from Lux E means that she has too many ways to avoid damage. And it should be noted that the ability itself is on a long enough cooldown to finish several taunts. He is MEANT to avoid damage and CC and is reliant on skillful timing and predictions, in fact it's a proper reward for the player for using the ability as such. But it's also decently flawed, it's coding is weird, cast times, CC still affects him if he Q's and comes back and can only be used once to dodge or to engage unless he gets takedowns.

Restoring Mana doesn't solve much either, he only has two abilities that use Mana aside from it. And giving him more resources to use Alpha Strike more is not helping that champion at all due to it's flawed ability. It makes him more predictable and seem like he can only Alpha Strike as an ability and removes his sustain when Jungling. It'll completely ruin his champion kit and role if that was done.

Maybe instead of judging from past experiences from facing him, actually play Master Yi and see his own flaws. Theres a lot to be gained from a different perspective.

Master Yi is a free win in low-level games. A good indication that he is a bit too strong.

I do believe your statement is heavily false. He is nowhere near a free win, he simply is able to punish players for obvious and large mistakes, as such with any champion. The reason he works in Normals is because people take it less seriously and they are trying to polish simple necessary skills before tackling Ranked which in turn gives him more room due to the lack of Effort and Skill.

And mind looking at that link, if you look at it, Master Yi overall has a 48% Win Rate in Ranked. Additionally, in every League aside from Gold, he has below a 50% Win Rate. Gold having 50%. It is blatantly clear that he is in a bad spot and does not do well in Low Level Games even today.

He is no where near "Too strong" and saying that he wins Low Level Games (Which i have cleared up and overruled the statement) does not make him automatically strong. That's the same as a Champion doing well in a low effort game automatically means he's powerful and requires nerfs. That is not a "good indication".

Please provide proper justification in your statement.

Yi stopped being shocking in the game when he had his rework (when he became a assassin ad), I don't think that his kit is that bad, it's possible to work on it and improve that. Master Yi would be infinitely more effective in mid lane with these stats or something like that). Almost every champion played in the jungle can easily win the game by playing on Yi. Yi would be on an equal footing with other champions like Zed, Katarina and others midlane assassins.

I think that his Q is the biggest problem. Yi has just one skill that deal damage and this skill has a incredible base damage of 25 (The only assassin with such low damage). His Q was meant to kill minion, if it don't change he will always be a mediocre champion. Meditate must to scale with AD. The only useful feature of his W is the autoattack reset and sometimes the reduced damage. As a compensation for the fact that he only has one damage skill, I think it's fair the AD scale on W. Meditate was meant to be a healing skill and it's is used more to reset autoattack than as a healing ability. I like Wuju Style, I think this skill give to Yi some advantage in 1v1 (The only skill that put him ahead of other champions). Now comes the trump card. This change in Highlander would allow him to enter the fight and stay there dealing damage and not die like almost every other assassin champion.

I think it's valid to be tested.

It is important to emphasize that I have put these values as a form of representation to have a basis of what to do.

PS: Sorry if there are any errors. English is not my first language.

I do not believe Master Yi would work in Mid Lane as he is right now (Is what i'm getting at) and while there are champions, especially in this season and meta, facing a Jungle Master Yi normally means you have instant jungle advantage for yourself and your team. You can even push this to even taking over his jungle and killing him over and over if you're playing a meta jungler, or if you know what you're doing as a Jungler.

Master Yi doesn't even hold a candle to Zed, Katarina or anything you probably intended. He lacks harass, he gets harassed for free, his offensive ability costs about 1/3 or 1/4 of his Mana and his W is subpar. His E is a proper CS'ing tool i think however. Overall he has mana problems and is likely to get beaten down in a fight in lane, however, i do think he is strong under tower with his defensive options.

As i've said before, i do agree with the W change to AD.

I do not think Highlander can be spoken as a "Trump Card" as it cannot turn the tide of any losing fight. It gives Attack Speed and Movement Speed. This in no way keeps from not dying in a fight, aside from giving you a small closer opportunity at getting your Q back up, and even then it won't change the fight very much due to it's small damage that you stated.

EDIT: My bad, i realize you were speaking about the proposal changes from this discussion. But my statements still stand and I do not think personally it is valid to be tested as i have said before, well, i approve of the W change at the least.

I know that these changes wouldn't be the best, I agree with it. I'm talking from the perspective that Riot aren't going to make another rework on Yi, I put this suggestion as an option to start make changes and get him off this irrelevant situation. Between making those changes and not changing, you will agree with me that these changes are better. Moreover, I have no idea what could be feasible in place of the current wuju style.

I'd like to disagree, because if you haven't seen...in Patch 8.3 in PBE they proposed an ability rework to Master Yi, it was changing his W. Though minor it is, Riot is willing to Rework Master Yi, and is in a part of their plans to rework champions that need it. As such the Aatrox and Akali rework incoming.

And the changes do not at all get him off this situation. I have stated before in a previous comment that this is not what he needs. This will only make lower elo stomps a bit more apparent and maybe give Bronze a 54% Win Rate with Master Yi while Gold and Higher he'll be irrelevant. These changes don't make him any more viable, if anything, they just make him more absurd.

I have seen YIMO and Yi Discord and i beg to differ that i would agree that these would be for the best, especially given context that Riot is willing to do something to the champion.

People have offered all kinds of changes to his E, though most of them don't really change it, they just add on. Because of the small part it takes within the champion kit people want additional effects or more apparent abilities, like Xin Zhao got a rework and got a cool W which has shown colors with his current strong state. Even i have given suggestions for an E change too and i think there would be several better abilities than the current Wuju Style.
