Bronze Discussions: My Question About Items.
Hey there, Bronze player Fenikkusu1 here. (Just call me Fen) and I'm here with a possible new thing I would like to start on the boards. I like good discussion and debate, and I love LoL, so I figured why not mash the two into one. Now despite the title, these posts are not limited to people who are only bronze, nor will the discussions always be about what being in bronze is like, the title is more so to give reason to my question, the idea that if the question comes off stupid, its probably because I didn't know the answer. I've only been playing LoL for about a year and a half now, and I've took a huge break this season and only got back in about two months ago. So my info isn't the most current. But enough of that, onto the question!
Question: Does anyone else feel like items have to much stock in League?
My Answer: If you ask me, it seems like this season and really the game overall, the items are what matters, and the champions less so. Not saying picks and bans aren't important, because they are, but the relationship doesn't feel equal. Keep in mind this is all my opinion.
Now I know that gold is a very big factor of the game, its the thing that basically allows you to actually win. Kill creeps-->Get Gold-->Get Items-->Tons of damage-->Win. But lately it feels like the only reason to pick certain champions is because they can build this item that will make them GODLIKE. For example, lets use a fairly recent example
. The item a lot of people have been complaining about how it makes mages basically have an auto and brainless kite, which it kinda does. But it seems like the champions picked are picked so that the team can have the power of Rylia's avalible to the team. Sure people like
make crazy good use of not only the passive but as well as the AP to add to her Tons of Damage, but I feel if Rylias weren't so strong, we may end up seeing less Syndra. You can more then likely rush
over
in an AD VS AP matchup and be fine.
Another good example is in bot lane with
and
all building
and
. Now these are the three prime users of this build, I don't know of any other ADC's who use it off the top of my head, but I'm sure most other carries could make use of these items. We've seen a lot of Jhin in Worlds, and these are basically his three core items, but my question is this. Is it: Is the thought processes: "Oh lets pick Jhin, his kit will help us win this game!" or is it: "Lets pick Jhin, these items totally make him busted." I feel like this meta, champion kits don't mean as much as they should. Its more the idea that these champs make super good use of these items, and I don't think that's the right way to go about things. But I've been wrong before, and as I've said, I'm bronze.
I think champions should be more unique with their kits. A champion is a person, a character after all, and there reason to be played shouldn't be because this one item breaks them seven ways from Sunday. It should because their kits have more meaningful impact in a team comp. Now I know League is hard to balance, and I know I've shittalked Riot about their balance in the past, and I'm sorry. Again this is my opinion, but I think maybe there should be more done to champion kits, granted do it CAREFULLY. If that means every ability needs to have an essay long description on how it works, maybe that's the way to go, that way champions will be picked based on the champ itself, and not because the champion will become a god as soon as they hit their first item.
Again, this is all the opinion and rationale of some kid in Bronze 2, but hop into the comments and lets get a discussion going.
Singed, Fen.
