The best solution for pick orders in draft mode (e.g being first pick top/jungle)

Now that dynamic queue fixes lanes and lane wars are over. I wanna ask a question.

have you ever wanted to hide your pick until you have seen what others would pick but it happened that others don't have your champ or they just don't wanna help? i hear top laners get screwed majorly by this.

the current system works this way. the first player and only the first player who is in the first pick spot gets to pick first and then it moves on to alternate in 2s until the last one.

this makes it a problem for people who wanna hide their pick until they have seen what the other side is going to pick and make a decision later whether what they were planning for is going to work or not.

now in the pro scene this isn't a problem because all players have all champions so swapping isn't a problem. but on the casual side this is an issue.

because not everyone has all champions (yet/ever) swapping becomes difficult. This creates 2 problems:

The first one is:

First pick cant hide his pick for later if he was in a sensitive position or he wanted to play something that is countered by a certain someone.

The second one is:

2nd 3rd 4th and 5th players might not be able to get a first pick on someone who is known to be a contested pick.

For example right now Lucian is heavily contested but if first pick doesn't have him and ADC player is 4th he might not get to play him even though his team had the power of first pick.

now instead of giving first pick to the player, give it to the whole team. That way the first pick team gets to choose their first champion and then stop. Then the other team gets to pick twice and then the first team gets to pick twice and so on regardless of players' order.

that way since the first pick is given to the team and not the player, that ADC who is 4th gets to pick Lucian and the 1st player gets to wait. if he was in a sensitive role like top he can hide his pick even if he is the only one who owns the champ he wants to play.

so for example picks would look something like this:

(numbers represent the positions of players)

first pick round

first pick team.

  1. Lucian

last pick team

second pick round

first pick team.

  1. Lucian

last pick team

  1. Morgana
  2. Sivir

third pick round

first pick team.

  1. Ahri
  2. LeeSin
  3. Lucian

last pick team

  1. Morgana
  2. Sivir

fourth pick round

first pick team.

  1. Ahri
  2. LeeSin
  3. Lucian

last pick team

  1. Maokai
  2. Morgana
  3. Kassadin
  4. Sivir

fifth pick round

first pick team.

  1. Ahri
  2. LeeSin
  3. Shen
  4. Lucian
  5. Thresh

last pick team

  1. Maokai
  2. Morgana
  3. Kassadin
  4. Sivir

last pick round

first pick team.

  1. Ahri
  2. LeeSin
  3. Shen
  4. Lucian
  5. Thresh

last pick team

  1. Maokai
  2. Kindred
  3. Morgana
  4. Kassadin
  5. Sivir

one more thing, though riot said that they wanted to make the first 2 players on a team to secure key champs while the other 3 get to pick a ban but that wasn't to balance anything. it was just to INVOLVE everyone.

pro-players still dodge the problem of hiding picks with swapping but normal players dont get that everytime. which is why swapping is still there anyway.
