Regarding Recent "Fire GhostCrawler" or "Fire the Balance Team" Threads

Hey all,

I am giving a friendly reminder that it's okay to vent about the current state of the game and say you're dissatisfied with the current direction that the game is going in. However, it's not okay to directly harass or call out individual Rioters or a Riot team because you are frustrated. They are people like you, deserve the same respect as you do, and make mistakes like you because they are human too. I understand all of you are frustrated and in a torch and pitchfork mood, but I ask that you please take a step back before posting those threads. They do read the boards and it's very unappealing to see threads pop up that say "FIRE X HE IS RUINING Y." We wish to foster communication with Riot and the community and not have Rioters be afraid to post because players are upset.

tl;dr take a breather before posting and put the torch and pitchforks away.

Thanks all.

Edit: We will be removing those threads for violation of the Golden Rule and issuing warnings if they continue. Please like I said take a step back and don't directly harass others.

Edit2: To clarify my thread, we do allow constructive criticism regarding Rioters. You guys can say he can be fired or bad at design provided the discussion is constructive, respectful, and substantiative. Threads with the sole purpose of calling out Rioters that don't offer anything else will be removed. For example, ghostcrawler ruined league because X and Y, which caused us to experience A and B, and here’s how and why. I also think he should be fired, because the impact of those experiences caused us to have negative gameplay. Additionally, we draw the line at personal attacks. While you can comment on Rioters' professional profiles, we won't tolerate attacks on their persons.

It's funny. If Rioters didn't want the boards to be mad at them, perhaps fixing the main issue rather than censorship would be more effective. I can understand blocking the CertainlyT posts because they tend to lack context or intelligence. If someone made an argumentative post saying a Rioter or Live Design should be fired, I think that post should be allowed. To contrary, if someone said X should be fired without any real context or substance, I completely agree that shouldn't be allowed. I would put examples, but you get the idea.

You aren't fixing the issue by censoring people. If you truly wanted to foster communication, you need to have Rioters willing to talk about real issues within the game and you need to have a community that doesn't hold a grudge because of shitty balance. The issue is Riot doesn't listen to what the community says while also talking about irrelevant things. Example: Top lane is still bleeding post 7.24b, but Meddler is talking about buffing Yi and Tryndamere. That makes people mad.

Hmmm, I'm not sure how to feel about this. Let me explain using a very recent example.

I am a fan of the Green Bay Packers. For the past many years, our defense has been atrocious. After seeing some of our players go to other teams and become Pro Bowlers, I jumped on the #firecapers bandwagon. Dom Capers was our defensive coordinator. Us fans have been calling for his departure for months, some for years. He was producing an awful product...he was not doing his job. Articles and opinion pieces were written and published suggesting he should go. Things like this happen all throughout the NFL. Today it was officially announced that he had been fired.

Now this was nothing against him as a person. He seemed like a swell guy. Hell, he honestly reminds me a lot of my late grandfather. He helped us win the Super Bowl for the 2010 season; so he did some good and we respect and appreciate him for that. But he was not producing a quality product for many years after that, and therefore a change needed to be made. So when it comes to sports teams, we do seem to call out individuals.

I am of the crowd that believes this game has deteriorated. I have felt this way for a long time now. This game that has basically turned into team deathmatch, snowball, damage creep, wish we could ff at 10 is not the same quality product it used to be (this is just like, my opinion, man). When the people in charge of producing a quality product are not doing so, at what point is it warranted to call them out? It's nothing against them as a person. But when they are not adequately doing their job, and when things seem to be going downhill for a year or more, perhaps changes need to made.

They do read the boards and it;s very unappealing to see threads pop up that say;FIRE X HE IS RUINING Y.

  1. Then how are we supposed to offer feedback or criticism?
  2. More importantly how are the developers supposed to know that they have made a mistake?
  3. I'd really like to know how feedback being pleasing or not is at all relevant to riot's decision making process, can you please explain?

We wish to foster communication with Riot and the community and not have Rioters be afraid to post because players are upset.

  1. That is their job, if they are afraid or unwilling to do their job then... I'll let you finish the rest of that statement.
  2. If fostering communication is indeed your goals, then regardless of the content why would you censor or remove that communication?
  3. Players will always be upset, that is part of the purpose of the boards, please explain how that is at all relevant to riot providing proper explanation of decision making process?
  4. Then why has riot all but eliminated player input from the boards?

Thanks all.

Thank you for addressing these concerns.

Sincerely, A long time and caring, devoted fan.

This is absolutely laughable.

First of all, you ask for the respect of your community, saying that you deserve it.

Honestly, Riot deserves little if any respect for ignoring its community, lying to its community, and then insulting its community with this sort of crap.

Not everyone is as articulate as you expect, nay, demand them to be. You say you allow people to vent their frustration and then you turn around and prohibit them from doing so in a way that you, yourselves, define as nonconstructive.

Second of all, the squeaky wheel is the one that gets the oil.

I've read a number of constructive and well-thought out threads that highlight your errors and then outline why you made mistakes and then listed how you might correct them.

The vast majority of these threads are blatantly ignored.

It is only when someone riles your feathers that you finally take notice.

And finally.

Riot, you created and nursed a community filled with toxic people and trolls. It is obviously within your power to issue swift consequence against them. But it is becoming increasingly apparent that the only time you seem to give a damn about offensive behavior is when it is directed at you.

Meanwhile, you continue to allow your players to be victimized by the bullies of the game who threaten AFK and feeding and then make good on those threats. We are made helpless against it and are told to use the report and block features and move on. Everyone has the potential to have these people on their team; so, your reward is that maybe in the future your enemy will have a feeding troll! We aren't given back our LP because of potential abuse. Well, what about the abuse we already suffered?

But I suppose that's nothing compared to people insulting you...on the internet!

we just don't want silver players to change the balance of the game imo. Riot just throw sand in our eyes avoiding to fix a problem at all cost and that's really pissing us off. but nothing does the trick more than the classic response that rioters use 99% of the time: "Small amount of the playerbase uses reddit or boards to give feed back so we wont listen to it (and we will keep doing our shady and w/o any constext changes)". towers are in miserable state for more than a year and what we got? An actual tower nerf :D this shows how much Riot care about our feedback. Someone from Riot like Cactopus will try to defend with butter and sweet but it's getting old. Something must change the communication between the players and Riot is almost nonexistent.

Okay. Here's a couple of constructive threads:

https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/iZ7MG70x-i-personally-think-that-certainlyt-is-not-fleshed-out-for-the-leagues-design-philosophy

https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/3vTsZAec-simple-and-direct-zoe-question

Watch as both of them get absolutely no red responses.

Almost as if Riot is avoiding engaging with all criticism, no matter how well-stated and "nice" it is, and this "players are just too jerky" thing is just a lame excuse to avoid engaging with criticism. The fact that most of the champion balance concerns are the fault of one person in particular is just icing on the cake.

What i hate the most is that they put shady changes without ANY context beside saying "it's for good" and i'm still asking about the awkward situation with the most common Riot response: "Small amount of the playerbase is actually giving feedback in reddit boards or somewhere else" U made it like this Riot they see u wont listen to the players and they don't even bother wasting time in forums giving feedback if u are just going to ignore everything. after the OE disenchant rate changes everyone saw your true EA-like nature ... of greed. i used to think Riot was playerbase-friendly company but they are now becoming like the rest shady companies that try to milk every cent u got.

People have given constructive criticism countless times on multiple subjects. I remember the Dynamic Q situation pissing people off for a good while, and they ignored everyone for an entire season. This game has very glaring issues right now and now you guys want to censor people after Riot has shown that they really don't care all that much for what people think? If anything those "fire ___ rioter" should be telling you that people are very unhappy.

But nah, I guess censorship is a better idea than actually solving the real problems.
