Riot... PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT SMURFS!!!!!!!!!!

I am so tired and frustrated of playing the constant 50/50 every game because of smurfs. If they are in your game, they either end up smashing their opponents or intentionally feeding because "this is my fun account".

I just got out of a game with a top laner and a filled support smurf. The top laner proceeded to go 0/11 as he just ran it down, saying how this was his "fun" account and how he doesn't give a f$@k. The support mundo, upset that he was filled and that the adc didn't swap with him, began to belittle the adc all game then left lane and stole our junglers camps the rest of the game. Not only did he throw away bot lane but now our jungler fell off completely...

I know there are hundreds of posts just like this and I always see the same classic comments. "If they are smurfing they won't be in your divison long", "you don't always get smurfs in your games.", or "sometimes I want to play with my friends who are lower ranks than I am". I just want to be clear that I am not trying to state that the somehow get rid of smurfing or crackdown on them that way. I want to propose a better idea, one that is actually used today in another game and would be simple to implement.

What I am suggesting is that Riot implements something along the lines of Prime Matchmaking that CS:GO has in place. For those who don't know, prime matchmaking works by pairing your account to a phone number, not a google voice number or anything similar, and matching prime members to other prime members. You can still make smurf accounts and play league but it will be much more difficult to make those smurfs prime accounts. While it's not totally impossible it just sets up another obstacle for them to overcome.

This system can also help with toxic players! Banned accounts for toxicity will still be tied to a phone number that cannot be used again and then when they buy/make a new account they will not be able to enter prime matchmaking. Everyone would possibly be more worried about being an A-Hole in games and inting because of that reason alone.

Finally, this system would be easy for Riot to implement because I am pretty sure my phone number is already linked to my account and I feel like I am not in the minority either on that point.

IDK, I feel much better after typing this entire thing out but this game would be so much more enjoyable if this feature would be in place. I cannot be the only one who is sick and tired of hoping for no smurfs in every single game.

I notice a lot of level 30 unranked accounts are put into gold/plat elo. Maybe they doing something about the smurfs. You know people complained how smurfa ruining their bronze/silver games now smurfs are put into gold/plat lol

And they should do something about the opposite of smurfing, boosting. Last game I played ranked, I was playing ranked the other day and as usual our ADC was feeding. Went and op.gg him and what a surprise, every single game he has played at ranked was duo except very few games where he was solo and his scores were trash. I guess his premade duo was the one with the skill and just boosted him up to platinum.

While I tend to agree, there are ways to mitigate it. Ways people didn't tell me, and I had to learn the hard way.

Don't play ranked with higher elo friends on smurf accounts. You will end up with insane MMR for your rank and very different people in your games.

Don't play solo or off your A-Game at the bottom of any tier. I guess except Iron, if you're Iron 4 zero lp you have nothing to lose. Because promos exist and the fact that you can sit at 0 lp for a while, there is an emergent sorting effect that ensures team quality will be abnormally bad.

Don't play ranked the first and last few weeks of the season.

Don't play ranked on Friday night, Saturday evening, or very late in the evening. This is when people who are prone to smurfing are bored and likely to do it. Nobody is smurfing at 10am on a Tuesday.

Biggest thing is to make sure your MMR is really tight with your Rank. Don't be Silver 3 in games with mostly Gold 4 players. Also, don't be Silver 4 in games with mostly Bronze 2. There are a crapload of people playing in bronze-gold, there are more than enough to find a match of your rank. If you're Silver 4 and only being put in Bronze 2 teams because you are being demotion-shielded and keep losing, you have a hill to climb to stop running into problematic matchmaking.
