Does off season effect your MMR?

Does playing ranked during the off season have any effect on your MMR? Let's say I go from Gold 5 to Plat 3 or something during off season, will I play against Plats for my placement or would it still be against Silver/Gold players? I'd love to use this time to practice new champions but not at the risk of losing too many games that would effect my placements next season.

Yup . just like what you said :D If you play ranked during off season, it will effect your MMR :D

Yup yup, all pre-season play affects the MMR for the next season.
