Tired of being Support

bugsXCVII··6 votes·1,398 views

I main support and im sick of it.

I'm not a pro league player, but I genuinely try my best. I never troll or feed intentionally, and I have a pretty good record overall. But support in general is not an appealing role at the moment.

If my team wins, you get away unnoticed (not appreciated, but better than being flamed at least).

If your team loses, you were the cause of everything.

Am I doing something wrong? Please advise. I like playing support because some of the champs are fun (blitzcrank and lux) but its very frustrating.

Thanks!

My friend, i feel you, i finally just got to dia 5 from gold 1 after 128 games of morg sup. But that is the weigth we must carry. Nobody will come to you and say: "Hey, you just summoner 4 +summoner 3 +item 3190 , that safed my ass! you are awesome!" No, they will never say that. It will not even cross their minds.

But exhaust 0.1 sec to late, or miss 1 skillshot, or let the adc (who is **again **playing frontline..) die and you are crap, rubbish etc...

**But WE are the heroes they need, but NOT deserve! WE are the silent guardiens, the watchfull protectors, because we can shoulder the blame! WE are not just heroes, WE ARE dark knights ** #SUPPORTS!!!!!!!!

assemble!

no joke we were once team fighting in mid and adc went off on his own to bot lane, pushed deep and got ganked obviously, then blamed me.

my favorite comments from these kind of adcs:

"....." "no ult" (on cd) "get X instead of Y" when there are wards everywhere on the map except for the one specific place he wants: "no wards"

I can 100% confirm that! Normally they act like know it all, and then do the most stupid thing possible... and you forgot: "raptors are more important then a free inhib","protect me"(while he tried to 1v5), and my personal favorite: "Wheres my team!?"

Nope, you aren't doing something wrong, that's just how support is.

  • Had an enemy Jhin yelling at his Leona that she, "never made a play all game. Brand won lane for Lucian." Any time Leona dove on Lucian, I immediately combo'd Jhin for 90% of his health and then Lucian dashed over and finished him off. Eventually Leona stopped diving cause they were so far behind. I would've done the same if I was her.

  • I was told, "I'm not carrying this support" by our jungle after we were dove 4v2 bot. I managed to get Brand's EQWR combo off before they killed me and my ADC survived with a triple kill. In the end Lee said, "tbh, brand normally does more damage" though apparently being the highest damage dealer in the game wasn't good enough for him since I "kept dying".

  • Played Lulu support and saw my Draven trying to take bot tier two tower solo as the enemy started walking towards him. I pinged danger and ran in that direction to see the Lux, Ashe, and Annie collapse. I somehow Flashed, Exhausted, ulted, shielded, and polymorphed. He somehow came out of that with a triple kill and 200 health. "gj Draven" said our top. No, incredibly lucky Draven.

Every once in a while you get that one person that notices what you did for them. I had a Jax a few games ago that was trying to get dragon pretty early on and so he was losing a lot of health from it. I wandered up when I noticed and the enemy mid, jungle, support, and ADC started collapsing on us as Jax continued to tank dragon hits to about 300 health. Jax was trying to avoid skill shots by jumping to me or wards, but eventually a Lee Q landed and he went in for the kill. I managed to ult Jax in time to stop Lee while our mid came down and quickly deleted the enemy mid before helping us kill Lee. The other two ran away and we took dragon. After that Jax typed "Lulu, my hero."

Those are the moments where you feel like you did something. I enjoy being able to play a support who enhances my team. The only problem is sometimes that isn't the option. I can play Soraka and drop heals every time it's off cooldown, that doesn't mean that the Vayne trying to 1v5 at 2 minutes into the game is going to win though. I can land a Thresh hook, flay, into box combo that lockdowns down the enemy ADC, but if my ADC is too busy farming, it means nothing.

The alternative is to play a carry support like Brand, which I tend to do a lot due to teams not realizing a full AD comp or full melee or full Assassin (besides ADC) comp is a bad idea. Yeah, I doubt the enemy team is going to be buying multiple MR items to counter the support Brand, but they aren't going to be able to just ignore the damage I can put out. And, at the very least, all the AOE I can do can discourage teams from trying to engage or force them to blow multiple ultimates just to eliminate the support.

The best thing to do is figure out the best way for you to carry. If you are an amazing Blitzcrank, you can carry games by picking off people who are out of position. Or landing a Lux bind into ult should chunk the enemy carry enough for your ADC to get that finishing blow. If the ADC isn't aware enough to do that, there's not much you can do but realize that you aren't at fault and keep trying your best. Eventually you'll be better at ignoring all the whiners complaining about "BRAND, STOP KSING. YOU DIED AND STILL STOLE THE KILLS."

It's not you. It's them. 2 many toxic players. I now type **/ignore all ** at the beginning of each match. My enjoyment improved from that point

bugsXCVII1 votes

i might start doing that for ranked games.

Athenes Lulu2 votes

If anything this isn't support-exclusive.

Maybe play with a different mentality that you are the one to improve and that you can learn to get better at the game and support even the stupidest teammates.

bugsXCVII1 votes

i have no problem with bad teammates. at this elo, we are all learning. I've never said that.

I do have a problem when bad team mates blame me. Why doesn't your argument apply to them?

Athenes Lulu1 votes

I mean every role gets almost the same amount of blame.

ADCs can't last hit perfectly? Support flames at him. Botlane fed and ADC is the one with more deaths because he's the one with less self-defense? Team flames at ADC even if it was the support making misleading plays. I can even go on with junglers and just about anyone else.

Point being, the difference is what you are getting blamed over, not the amount of blame you get because of role. Hell, if anything, it's always my ADCs and junglers getting flamed in my games even if I'm really there one at fault, so your argument of "support are thankless and always get blame" isn't... support exclusive.

bugsXCVII1 votes

ive never said (if you think i did, i never intended to mean) that "support are thankless and always get the blame" is exclusive to the support role. Ive seen it happen to every role at least once. not as often as the support role though. I know its not exclusive.

also, if adc dies, eveyone says botlane fed. ive NEVER seen someone say adc fed, its always botlane fed. (maybe you have. but how often?)

Play support (carry). By that I mean Brand, Vel'koz, etc. Feast or famine. Win or lose you still have fun blowing people up.

Dracocrash1 votes

why wouldn't you just play mid then?

MLDzXnRRR2 votes

Play bard and go full AD...

Talisid2 votes

It happens to every class but Support and Jungle get the most hate when shit goes wrong.

I looked you up. Bronze and low silver are generally known to be more toxic. It's not that you are doing anything wrong. There are more players with a negative attitude at the bottom of the ladder unfortunately.

My advice would be to play other roles for a while and resume support once you reach gold.

I've been a support main for my entire ranked career and there are very few games I experience where players blame me.

bugsXCVII1 votes

thanks, I'll be trying other roles

Naqel2 votes

What you're doing wrong, is that you're not playing an assassin support.

Bladerunner77771 votes

nobody is forcing you to play it

bugsXCVII1 votes

this is where the "no one likes to play support" mentality comes from.

ignoring the problem wont fix it.

Bladerunner77771 votes

I like to play support

support mains like to play support

bugsXCVII1 votes

you've heard of "no one likes to play support" right?

it doesnt literally mean NO ONE likes to play support.

If i didnt like to play support, i wouldnt be a support main either, but i do. Im just saying its very frustrating, and thats why FILL is almost always SUPPORT. for low elos like me, fill is basically = support. why do you think that is?

Bladerunner77771 votes

I main support and im sick of it.

you obviously aren't a support main then

Support is an unpopular role and there's nothing Riot can do to change that. At a fundamental level you are supporting your team and not being supported, because that's the role of the support.

bugsXCVII1 votes

how am i not a support main.

and i never said riot can change the way people think, but what they can do is make some more fun support champs that are a bit more independent.

Dracocrash1 votes

lux "support"

bugsXCVII1 votes

and whats wrong with lux support

Dracocrash1 votes

shes not a support

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

i dont think lux is a good support tbh

bugsXCVII1 votes

any other fun supports?

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

"fun" and "supports" don't cross paths very often. at least for me. when i sup. i play blitzcrank or something non meta. i like to do ekko suipport sometimes

bugsXCVII1 votes

yeah blitzcrank is fun. someone recommended bard too.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

bard is fun

bugsXCVII1 votes

also, I like how easy it is for everyone to say "support lost us the game" but when support carries no one says "support won us the game" or "support carry or mvp"
