Looks like season 6 so far is leaving mages in a weak spot. In PBE i stay away from mid lane because of the cost increases to AP items and additional burst from the broken IE ER combo. I bet DFG would help balance it out a bit. Thoughts?

Just... No. They made the ADC changes and AD itemization options better because they were lackluster, lacking behind the options that mages have. Could they have gone a little too far without giving mages compensation? Yeah, probably. With how good AD champions are at shredding tanks in the preseason with Lord Dominik's Regards I think it's called? could we be looking at a meta where AP falls entirely out and Corki because a major important pick or ban? Yeah, possible. Do I feel like AP champions deserve some love with buffs to their items and maybe a few new ones as well? Yeah. But outright returning DFG would instantly cause the problem of AP-heavy dive assassin style champions, like Ahri, Leblanc, and Akali, being dominant to just fall out completely. Instead, I feel like they should add a spiritual successor to DFG. Something that, instead of making your spells deal more damage outright, is similar to a Regards in the preseason 6 but for mages. Something that gives them options for against tankier champions. Regards gives ADCs a similar mechanic to Statikk Shiv, but with a focused hit against a single target, combine that with a Last Whisper passive on it and build BoRK and you basically make it so you don't much care about tanks anymore. Riot went pretty far with the ADC and AD item changes, and now they should update the mage and tank items to compensate for that.
