Fiddlesticks

I have just started playing again. Last time I played seriously was in September/November. How's Fiddlesticks? I saw that he just got nerfed (tether range is lowered to its old length). Is he still viable? Was he ever viable? How am I going to keep people in my drain if it tethers for lower range and my Q makes them run away? My friends say that he is total trash now.
