Hey guys! I am Hwangjaeq ,level 29, with ambitions of hitting high elo. I main Lee Sin and Zed mid. As I am nearing level 30 and ranked, I am in need of some tips and advice for my questions. When I thought about it, I realized that if I do rank, and my main role (mid) is taken, then I would play some role that I am not good at. I seek a good list from some high-elo summoners to help me with a list I made that shows the champions that I wish to master before I hit rank. I prefer aggresive type champions that can harass from early to late. (One reason Why i dont like adc is because they dont do damage till the late game). A couple criteria I have for my list. They’re not too OP so that they do not get any massive nerfs from Riot. They do not get banned too often in rank Champions that are fun to play Champions that are not op but at the same time not bad Champions that are good for their lane. Heres my list. Suggest some changes if you want!

Top: Fiora, Poppy, Jayce Mid: Zed Twisted Fate Jungle: Lee sin, Nidalee Adc: Ezreal Lucian Supp: Janna, Alistar, sona

P.S. I would appreciate some tips for ranked. Thanks! Have a good day! XD btw i uses http://www.nerfplz.com/2016/03/which-champions-are-strongest-when.html to help make my list

I think everyone can honestly say they would love to hit high elo. [slayer-jinx-catface]

That being said I would suggest a few hundred games into normal before ranked. If not comfortable with that enter into the custom game area and find open scrims. You might be lucky to face high elo players. But never discredit those of lower ranks.

find a champion that fits ur play style... and play the living shit out of him.. any champion is viable if u master it.. also get rune pages.. i have 3 to 4 diffrent pages for my main depending on the match up like how u dont want armor yellows vs a full ap team.. and against a full ad team u wont really want mr runes... watch streamers.. cause they usally know what they are doin.. get lol replay watch the games u lost and dont know why or all ur losses so u can see wtf happend.. in the heat of the moment u dont realize the dumb shit u do but when u watch it from a replay u can usally point out a ton of ur mistakse.. dont let losses get to u man.. and dont play ranked this season till they kill dynamic que.. cause its fuckin shit mate.

So first off I want to make it clear that you can main whom ever the fuck you want, I mean I play Aatrox regularly ffs and do quite well for myself considering how weak he is! lol So no matter what anyone says learn and practice the champs you really enjoy and add on to that list later :)

Anyway, I'll separate my answers based on position to make it more readable lol

Top: For this position you basically will want to have a couple tanks and a couple carries, so as to fit into any team comp you can and to avoid being countered or countering yourself because your champ pool is too narrow.

So Fiora and Jayce for your carries aren't bad, Fiora is hella strong but you will often find her banned, while Jayce on the other hand is on the weaker side with fewer good match ups, but he still does have them and his own effective playstyle, so just make sure you have backup carries, like MonkeyKing for example. As for tank options Poppy is always a fantasic one, post-rework ofc, but you will need another. The thing is after her nerfs she is very weak to champ with either true damage or who can bully you early game since your trading potential was just gutted. So like say the enemy team picks a Darius and your team NEEDS a tank, you don't really want to play Poppy into it, so maybe have a back pocket Trundle or Renekton to fall back on to avoid hard lane counters.

Mid: For this one you should have at least two AP champs, maybe even three, before you really start to main an AD mid. Zed and the others are generally very strong, so if you really enjoy Zed and can play him effectively then certainly continue playing him, but you don't really want to pigeon hole your team into a full AD comp just cause you can only play Zed mid and your AP choice would be countered or something. TwistedFate is a good all around option, but he is also very counterable, so have someone else who can do well against typical TF counters, like maybe pick up Ahri or Malzahar as back ups, or both! lol

Jungle: This one is similar to top, you want a couple carry options but also a couple tank options. Say you're last pick and your top laner has locked in Fiora and your support is Sona or something, you will have to fill that tank role effectively or your team could suffer if it doesn't snowball, which is not something you should rely on.

LeeSin and Nidalee are both very strong early game junglers, but they kind of do the same thing, so maybe for carries focus on an early game one, like Lee Sin, and one more for late game like Graves so you don't fall off, just incase you need late game power in your team. Then you really only need like one tank champ to fall back on really, RekSai , Gragas , Zac , and others like them are super easy to play and to learn and perform the tank role quite well.

ADC: Ezreal and Lucian are good choices, both strong right now, but I'd suggest three. Basically if you only have 2 to play here and one of them gets banned and the other team locks in a counter to your other choice then you're straight up fucked. ADC is my worst role so I couldn't really say who to pick up, but the gist is to have 3 ADCs you can effectively play.

Support: Janna and Alistar alone basically cover all the ground you need, Sona is ok as well and has her place, but if you can grab her or Janna right now you might as well always grab Janna lol I'd recommend adding Braum to this list for the sole reason that he's a very strong support and works very well with most ADCs.

Hope this helps at all! I made sure to use the face icons for the champs I think you should focus on to start, so it's easier to remember them should you come back to recall something :)

You can really choose whatever champions you want, but you need to focus on mechanics to get into higher elo. It might be hard to realize but watching the pros play, but a lot of fights are decided by a single early on either side. I mostly main support and mid lane casters, so a lot of my champions focus around pokes or assassinations. Here are some of the skills you should master for any role though:

  1. First Blood: If you play your cards right, you can get first blood in any lane. Learn how to harass and know your early game damage exactly. Make sure you take your enemy's runes into consideration, as this will make a very big difference in how you use your skills.

  2. Flashing: Always have flash, always have it on the same key (your choice), and always consider its cooldown and range whenever you engage. If you play mid lane or jungle, flash kills will make up some of your most important plays, and can lead to an early snowball if used effectively.

  3. Don't Die: Every time you die (without using your death for a meaningful trade), it's because of a mistake you made in either your own strength or positioning compared to the enemy. If you get ganked, caught out, assassinated, or poked down, its because of something you've done wrong in your awareness or choices. If you're just playing a game with friends for fun, you can feed all you want, but the same is not true for ranked games.

  4. Roaming: In many games, pushing lane will be your main priority, but always look for opportunities to roam and secure fights in other parts of the map. Understand the enemy jungle patterns as well as your lane opponent's need to back for items. Working around these two cycles sometimes affords valuable opportunities for kills.

  5. Procking Damage: Always maximize the damage you are dealing, Thunderlords is usually a good addition to this, but it doesn't work for every champion. Don't end your combo before getting all of the procks off.

Some champion suggestions: These are a few champions I like to run because I know they can win games and won't be easily blocked.

Sion Support: Very tanky, hard CC, lots of damage (scaling off of health) and AOE attacks for extra utility in duo lanes. His ult also comes in handy for a more dominant lane presence without having to bring teleport.

Sion Mid: Nearly un-counterable. I run Sion mid if I have to first pick. He has extremely high base damage on his Q, and this lets him build full tank early game without sacrificing much power. If you're against AP, start with null-magic. Against AD start with clock armor. Build into an HP and armor/resist item from there.

Kennen Top/Mid: Kennen is very strong as an AP assassin, but he takes a lot of attention to positioning. I have a special rune page for kennen featuring 9 Armor and 20 Magic Penetration. Most games I'll end with 58 flat magic pen, not including abyssal and void staff (optional). Since Kennen has no use for mana, mana regen, and his abilities are more dictated by his energy than his cooldowns, you're free to build full damaging items without sacrificing sustained abilities.

Karma Support: She's not particularly enjoyable to play as a main, but she has high damage output and utility to deal with almost any situation. Shields, speed boosts, slows, snares, and powerful self healing are all usable in any teamfight. Her versatility makes her hard to counter, and she can increase the power of any teammate she follows, regardless of their playstyle.

Sona Support: I mained Sona in seasons 3 to 5 (several hundred ranked games of her). She doesn't fit well into the current meta, but she is still a strong pick for poke, sustain, and late game damage. Be sure to build lichbane.

A slight note on playing to the Meta: I find it's always better to play against the meta instead of into it. Sion mid works now because of the assassins in that lane. He stomps on Ekko and Zed players, since he has a %hp shield capable of negating their burst. Tank/CC supports also work now due to the number of assassins that will jump on your ADC, though sometimes all you need is a good engage support for your assassins to go in on.

Hopefully this has been helpful in some sense. In the end, the most important thing for climbing in Ranked is to treat the games calmly and don't get worked up over the other players. Keep track of your mistakes in the game and learn how to avoid them in the future.
