Why did Riot rework Mordekaiser in the first place?

I don't know where the whole "shoving Mordekaiser in the bot lane" came from but it's very unusual. You shouldn't really experiment with old champions, that's what new champions are for. e.g, Kindred is suppose to be an adc and a jungler and Riot's intention was very successful. Mordekaiser on the other hand, Riot should've reworked Mordekaiser so he's more healthy in the top lane but stronger in a way.

Right now, Mordekaiser is garbage. Most of his damage comes from his Q and if you can't hit anyone with your Q, then you are as useless as paper. Before the rework, Most of his damage came from his E, R and those abilities have range. In addition, he had good base stats and right now, his base stats are really bad. Just as bad as anivia or Zyra.

If Riot managed to rework Mordekaiser again, how will they pull it off successfully without making him toxic or lose his identity? The one thing that makes him unique is the fact that he has no mobility and utility. How will they pull it off without making him garbage or overpowered as heck?

In conclusion, it's obvious that the Mordekaiser rework didn't go as it planned which resulted in a massive backlash. They should experiment with new champions, not old champions because it results in a massive backlash.

Riot: "Mordekaiser is oppressive and binary in Top and Mid Lane." CertainlyT: Literally overloads his kit with an attack that can deal more damage in three seconds than most carries can do in six and balances it around being the literally slowest champion in the game and completely reliant on set-up. "If you can find a support that can keep people locked down you pretty much win the game."

Keep in mind his Q's damage has since been skewered, cut open, had it's guts removed, and hung out to dry and he still has 325 Base MS

I'd say his passive is more iconic, and believe it or not, he has very high base damages. The q deals the most, yes, but e is aoe, has dual scalings, refreshes shield, and is low cool down.

It's not enough to compensate his non existant mobility and utility

He was an old champion who needed some updates and changes to stay relevant in the meta and entertain users. His rework may not have been the most successful but I'm still glad they did it. They were trying something new in trying to have a melee carry in the bot lane while trying to make old champions relevant again. It shows that riot is willing to try new things and do their best to keep the game interesting. Successful or not.

The problem with Mordekaiser and Skarner is that they needed way more than just "change ability A and B a bit + some new passive or something like that". Visually both are pretty outdated, Morde still has pizza feet + a weird mouth thingy and Skarners body parts are not even connected. They're kinda floating.

But onto the main problem: Skarner and Mordekaiser have kits that are impossible to balance right. This is why they need major work. Same as Taric, Gangplank or Poppy just making little changes or simply nerfing them into a unplayable point is not a right way to go for champions that are way too impossible to balance out. There is iconic stuff though like mordes metal ability names, his ultimate or Skarners ultimate. So when the time comes Skarner and Morde get the rework they really deserve i would say these are probably and hopefully the things staying similiar.
