Explanation on how the Ranking points system works.

I really wish to understand how the ranked points system works. I feel it is extremely broken in the way it distributes and revokes points for ranking.

[This is from solo queue experience] If I win 11 matches in a row I gain a total of around 70 ranked points, (give or take some) but if i lose the 12th match I lose 40 ranked points. (give or take some) That is completely unfair to me, that is a massive killer of. the fun, and the want to play more. This type of points system that says "You have won 10+ matches in a row, you've done well. But you lost you're 12th match I will just take all of you're points have fun!!!!" I am as the game says a bronze player, it took A LONG TIME to leave B5 and i have been in b4 for about a month now in point limbo because of the one match lose that steals so many points away from me. For these reasons i really with to understand why riot uses and has implemented this system, also if it will be updated to a more competent system. Thanks for reading and explaining if you do.

It is based off MMR, not the LP or rank you can see. It is a hidden value that you get from winning or losing games. You lose often or have a win rate lower then your lose rate, your MMR goes down and thus when you lose, you lose a lot of LP because the system thinks you are at the wrong elo, same thing with winning, you gain less for the same reason.

How much LP you get is completely dependent on your MMR and the average MMR of the match.

Your Division/Rank is completely artificial; however, it might cause you to gain or lose LP at an accelerated rate if your current division is way higher or lower than your MMR.

Once you hit the division where most other people who shares a common MMR with you are at, you will gain roughly equal LP per win as per loss; if you continue to climb, you will start to lose more LP as Riot believes that you do not belong in that division.

In short, it is perfectly normal to win 10 games gaining minimal MMR and lose 1 game to lose half of what you have gained, because you are either far superior to your opponents or you are a few divisions higher than what your MMR represents.

On the other hand, if your rank is much lower than what your MMR represents, you pretty much get 100 LP in 2 to 4 games.

You can increase your MMR by fighting tougher opponents. One easy way to do so is to duo queue with a friend harder than you. The nature of MMR also means that you will always be fighting an uphill battle while you climb up the ELO ladder. You can check your MMR at OP.NA.GG

Thank you for explaining this. It gives me a better understanding of why the system is this way. As well thank for answering a civil manor, and not just meme'ing me.
