Trying to make a fair match is not fair in Ranked System.

First of all, I am a casual player. I am a 35 year old man married. My wife also plays the game. We see League of Legends as an e-sport and a family activity. we even teach our daughter (4 year old) how to play. We watch all the matches at weekends... (even she comment about the matches like "why are you leaving your lane atrox ..." :)

So as a summary I don't have high expectation on my rank progress but the game is important and have a place in my life. So I generally play ranked (If I am not testing a new rune or a hero)

Last night after 8 matches win series I had a very hard/bad game, I wondered about the rival team ranks and when I looked I was shocked. There was a Gold 4 and Silver 2 while my team has only bronze and Iron players, our highest was B2. So I read about the matchmaking system and I found it very very unfair. (shared the text below.***)

It says that "You’re winning a lot, and the matchmaker is placing you against stronger opponents. A Silver player pushing for Gold should expect to see higher-tier players in their games. It means you’re winning more than you’re losing, and it means the matchmaker is starting to suspect that you’re worthy of higher placement. If you’re on a big win streak, you may even start to see opponents several divisions above you."

So If I am winning I have to play higher rank opponents... Ok so this means I am also worthy of their rank...

Lets think about a football team in 3th division of its league. Winning matches constantly. Then UEFA came and say: "ok you are a good team so you will now have matches with premier league teams and your league point will be determined by that. But you are still in the 3th division." This is nonsence but it is happening to us.

The MMR system creates a secret second Rank system where no one can see your success and your visible rank means nothing.

There is 2 basic solution I can think of...

  1. Remove the League system. Don't give us gold, silver ... ranks. Just give us visible MMR so everybody will know how good they are. (But I know you won't like that because the league system liked by most of the players.)

  2. Don't let people have matches across the leagues. (League means that... :) )

You say "we do try to make sure all teams have a 50 +/-1% chance of victory" but this is not a way of sports thinking. Then in worlds don't match NA teams with Korean Teams because they never have "a 50 +/-1% chance of victory". Or match Fnatic with a gold ranked team because they are having a losing series...

I hope the best for the future of the game...

While MMR is the number we use to determine your opponents, your personal progress is represented by the Leagues system. Here are a few familiar situations to illustrate the difference between your League and your MMR:

You’re winning a lot, and the matchmaker is placing you against stronger opponents. A Silver player pushing for Gold should expect to see higher-tier players in their games. It means you’re winning more than you’re losing, and it means the matchmaker is starting to suspect that you’re worthy of higher placement. If you’re on a big win streak, you may even start to see opponents several divisions above you. Your opponent is losing a lot, and the matchmaker is placing them against lower-ranked opponents to find them an appropriate spot on the ladder. The team’s average MMR is the same, but one team has five roughly-equal teammates and the other team has a few very highly-ranked players and a few lower ones. This one is pretty rare outside of full-premade teams, but we make our best efforts to try and ensure that we still balance queue times into fair matches. While we know some matches may feel like stomps, we do try to make sure all teams have a 50 +/-1% chance of victory using all the information we have, because part of what makes League so competitive is getting to face similarly-skilled opponents."

Your MMR accelerates more quickly than your rank.

I wouldn't suggest viewing your MMR as where you really belong, and your rank as holding you back. Which seems to be what you're doing.

You should view your MMR as your trajectory at your current level of play, and your rank as your current earned rank.

If you continue to play at the same level of play, you'll reach that rank. Unfortunately it's not a super fast process - but it's a more stable one. Gaining 25LP for a win and losing 15LP for a loss means that you'll steadily move towards a higher rank even with a 50% or slightly lower win rate. However gaining and losing 20LP when ranked at your MMR means that you need to win more than 50% to climb, which means that a few bad luck teams can really cost you.

The bigger reason for this is that if you're significantly better than your current rank, you can skip divisions or promo series while moving up. I.e. you can rank up faster if your MMR is higher than your rank and you're still winning.

In summary, MMR gives you fair matches and your LP gains/losses are adjusted to ensure your rank steadily moves towards your MMR - while requiring you to play a sufficient number of games to prove you deserve the rank and didn't just get lucky. If you're much better than your current rank, you'll rank up really fast to catch up (by skipping series and divisions).

The phenomenon of allies having worse ranks while enemies get better ranks is just bad luck: all players in the game have similar MMR.

umm this comment is bullshit, why would a fresh lvl 30 account ever be placed against plats and diamonds, I don't care how good the "system " thinks a player is, a player with less that 100 games should never play against people with upwards of 10,000 games played........ The new matchmaking and ranked system is fucking broken and honestly when compared to other ranked systems it is kinda laughable that promotional series games even exist. I want you to test this because I already saw it first hand (my promo games plays with silver gold and even a couple plats, places Bronze 4......... If you think I'm lying make an account, grind to 30, and do the same thing after one game because you are so new it places you in iron or bronze yet you play with ridiculously higher ranked players sometimes two divisions higher, shouldn't it just place you in silver if its going to do that, no because the ranked system is DESIGNED TO KEEP PLAYED STAGNANT AND FROM GROWING i'M SO SICK OF PEOPLE DEFENDING SOMETHING THAT IS CLEARLY BROKEN AND DESIGNED TO IMPACT THAT MAJORITY OF THE PLAYER BASE AND KEEP THEM LOWER THAN THEIR MMR IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand that MMR system meant to create much-balanced games. However, If I am going to play against higher divisions what is the meaning of the rank. I mean, it does not show how good you are. It shows how much you play.

If someone has a lot of time can clearly go up because the game try to have you %50 win rate anyway...

As a result Riot must decide if it is a game or e-sports.

If this is just a comuter game then you are purely right. But if it is e-sports, we must play acording to the devision regardless to our win rate.

Yeah, riot should keep matching you against players you will beat while blindfolded and without any hands.

If I can beat them so easily (which I am not :) ) why I am at the same division?

If a gold 4 plays with Bronz 2 to keep both at %50 win rating than is it fair?

System is a joke, for noobs like me there is no way to have fun in an normal or ranked game. And evry single Smurf ruins the game balance aswell. But this game is to old at all, noobs and new players arent welcome^^
