Is AP itemization ever going to be expanded?

Just looking at the huge feast of items that are available with AD on them and the relative famine of AP items is a bit disappointing.

Which feast of AD items?

Assassins have 3 items. Bruisers have 4 items. ADCs have 8 items.

Mages also have 8 items.
