Matchmaking: Question about team assignments

I'd like to hopefully get a better understand of something I've always found to be a bit strange in Match Making and being placed on a team.

Most of the time this is a non issue because not every game is dodged, however I've noticed that when I am in a lobby with a team, regardless if I think that team is going to be good or bad, and the game is dodged and then the picks and bans start over again I almost always end up on the same team, with the exception of perhaps the person who dodged. Rarely i'll see one person swapped to the other team.

Why is that? It cannot be dumb luck that you just happen to get the same 4 players on your team and they get the same 5 on theirs. Is this designed to be that way? Does anyone have any insights into this?

Dodges put you back at the top of the queue. Purple team has a slightly higher average MMR. The system simply takes the first 10 eligible players from the top of the queue.

yes, but if 9/10 people are at the top of the queue together, what are the odds that you get the same 5 on the same team as you had before the dodge.

with these people all closely equal in skill the odds of that happening aren't very good.

The difference between Blue and Purple teams' average MMR is about 20MMR. Unless there's an "uneven duo" the difference between top and bottom MMR on the same team will be less 20MMR.

In short, it should be extremely common if there's no "uneven duo" as the Purple team MMR should always be higher.
