S rating?

First, I am relatively new to League and this is around the third online game I have played, I have played many private games with friends before though.

So I was playing as Janna and I felt like I was doing bad the whole game as I have had several deaths and only a few kills, although I am a support I thought I could do more, and I didn't really help my team much in my opinion. I felt like I could have done a lot better. Then my team loses pretty badly and I get an S rating and a chest for getting one or something. Can someone explain what this really means and if it is impressive or something like that? I feel like I did bad but I think an S rank is good as a rating..

From what I see it's likely a product of your low summoner level. The mastery system probably weights your performance against similarly leveled people and evidently your performance was better than almost all of them. Especially having lost the match in lvl 30+ there's no way you'd have gotten an S, judging by everyone else in that match id rate your performance anywhere from B to A. The fact that you have played a lot of custom matches probably gives you significantly more skill with Janna than someone else your level who likely just picked her up and gets melted a bunch lol.

Ahh so since I am a low summoner level, the system matches my skill against others around my level which are new people like me. Thanks that makes a lot more sense!

The letter grade at the end of a game is based off of how well you preformed RELATIVE to your teammates and enemies, and since most people in your game fed, and you didn't, that is probably a big factor in your s, Good Job and Good Luck in future games!
