Soraka

Dear Riot,

I hate Soraka now. She was my main champion I played as, and now I cannot tolerate her kit. First off, when I decided she'd be my main champion to play as, I'd set her up as a support medic. I never really liked her as a solo champ, but I know she was good as one and players did just fine with her old kit. But yeah, she was really fun to play as with her old kit. I'd heal some, give mana here and there, and attack some. Sure, she mainly sustained her team, but that didn't mean she completely made it one sided or de-moralized the enemy team. Let me tell you this in bold print, HER OLD KIT WAS FUN AND FINE

You see, her cooldown rate on her old w made it to where she didn't heal too often but she still could heal. In fact, I think you could have reduced the cooldown of her old w and it still would have had a limit. We call this running out of mana. You could have made it to where consecutive healing made her mana run out faster like with Kog'Maw's ultimate. But no, instead you've taken something that you thought needed "fixing", took a crowbar, and proceeded to smash everything with said crowbar that was good about this champion. Why try to fix something that was working just fine?

Oh, because you wanted to make playing with her more, "interactive"? Let me tell you what's happened with her little, "interactions". You've made a back line support champion have to deal damage with her q, and then that q has to make contact with an enemy just to heal herself. Of course you've got potions and items you buy that heal her, but potions are more laning phase items and you don't rely on her core items that you upgrade to keep her alive completely. It was all about how you play with her, the distance between you and your enemies, when should you step in and back up to help out your team, when is it appropriate to silence enemies and when should I back up so I won't die, etc. Now, I have to place myself as a soraka player in the line of threat just to heal with my abilities. Only, what's the point if that's going to get me killed?

Soraka is a formal celestial being who uses positive energy to heal injured individuals. Where in her back story does that make any sense? And even if you ignore her back story, it still doesn't make any sense game mechanics wise.

You've made it to where I'm much more useful as a healer when I play Soraka if I take a stick and ram it right up my anus. That's what it feels like Riot. My healing as Soraka feels like I took a stick and just wedged it up my anal canal raw. That's much more useful that the piece of crap that you've made her into. She's too squishy to be going in the front lines just to get use out of her abilities like you have her setup now. Let me make it clear, her q as a skill shot is not the necessary problem here. The problem is that her w hurts her, and then you have to connect with q just to make her reasonable to play with. Only that's not reasonable since I'm not going to go into the front lines with Soraka just to make her reasonable. That logic is like saying the only way to tear down a brick wall is to hit my head against it. Sure, you might do some damage along the way, but not before brain matter starts leaking out of your skull.

Her q is okay as a skillshot, but why does it need to be a skillshot when she's mainly a support character and her q was okay as it was? Is it the thrill of challenging yourself? If I wanted that, I'd go play Dark Souls 2. This is a moba targeted for mainly teenagers and young adults who are discovering the wonderful world of lady bosoms and manly biceps. All I'm saying is making her q a skillshot was okay as a choice but using the excuse of that she's not interactive enough was lazy and doesn't make any sense when she was interactive enough with her old kit.

My biggest complaints are her w and her e. What were you smoking? Her w hurts herself? How does that make any sense?! The only champ that makes sense with is Vladimir, but that's because he's a vampire that uses his own blood to attack his enemies. He then has abilities, that also make sense, to regenerate his life back. Also, he's designed to be a tank to work along side life steal to sustain himself well. Soraka however is a squishy support who isn't made to regenerate like Vladimir or to tank like him either. Characters like Soraka and Sona work great if they have the choice to heal themselves or others whenever they want cause it gives them a way to keep themselves alive, keeps them able to still help out more, and keeps them in the lanes instead of going back to base often just to buy more potions. But now, I'm running out of health too fast and not able to help my party members cause I'm either too low in health or I died because I was too vulnerable and couldn't save myself. Soraka also doesn't have any kind of moves to get her to safety. She did have her w to heal her, but that's gone. And flash isn't reliant enough to always be there to get me away from enemies chasing me down and killing me. So her new kit gets me killed way too much.

Your reason for her w hurting her is to make it where she can't spam her healing ability and to punish those who heal too much. But again, I die too much because her w hurts her and makes helping my team unreasonable with her new kit. The main problem with this punishment of limiting her healing lies in the fact that her main abilities focus on her healing! Why punish players for using her main function? Again, it makes sense with Vladimir since he's a tank and can take a hit. But soraka needs all the health she has. She was dying enough with her old kit. But now to punish her for healing others and making sustaining her too difficult is really bad. And again, besides potions and core items, I have to use her q? Sorry, I'd rather play as Sona than put up with this bull crap.

Her e is also the other worst part of this sh*t storm. Her e was really good on her old kit. Geez, haven't I said the combination of, 'x was better in her old kit,' several times now? I wonder why I've repeated myself with that sentence several times now? I wonder if it has to do with the new kit being awful! How in the world did you think her e the way it is in her new kit would be a good idea? Again, what were you smoking? How is it that making enemies silent only as long as they stand in the area a good idea? And they don't even stay locked down long enough for her e to be rewarding. There are way many other champions that are worth playing as for crowd control than for Soraka's new e ability.

So let's run down the list to summarize just what pile of crap you pulled on us shall we. You made her main ability that heals damage her when she's too vulnerable for that kind of punishment and now she's too vulnerable and dies too easily. You have to use her q to heal. The problem with that is her q doesn't always hit and it puts her in a vulnerable place of threat. So the solution to her damaging w is to place her in a place of threat to heal herself. Jeez, who thought that was a good idea. Let's see, her w no longer heals herself. Of course it doesn't, who needs vital sustaining ability? Her best poke aka her e is now reduced to a shiny purple circle that appears on the ground that does essentially nothing useful. Well, at least her r/ult is still decent enough.

Riot, you've outdone yourself with this new kit for Soraka. You took a champion that was perfectly fine and changed her into sht. Why? For interaction and making her more of a healer while keeping her healing responsible. She was already interactive enough, and her healing was fine and balanced. Look, if you're going to make something bad, then at least don't make poor excuses for needing to make a support champion, "more interactive," and, "more of a healer." All you've done is make her less interactive and less of a healer.

PS: This was posted by zidanjou 2 months ago in the patch 4.17 notes, but I happen to agree with them... this needs addressed.... Riot, please figure this out, you took an awesome character and made her worse than Sona. Also maybe change her Starcall back to the old one and her Silence and Mana giving back to the way it was, and keep her hurting herself to heal, but make it so her damn starcall CANNOT BE AVOIDED.... also Cho'Gath's silence can be targeted, so why can't hers be?

I've been a 'Soraka Main' since I started playing, I started spam playing Soraka when she fell into free week on my 5th or 6th day playing League. Soraka was my first ADC, Soraka was my first jungle, for the longest time she was my only toplaner. I made it to level 30 and I would still take Soraka top and claim 'there isn't a single champion I can't beat toplane was bruiseraka'. In the end I never found a meta toplaner that could beat me. There were always better skilled players than my bronze noobness (I hit lvl 30 in about a month of playing League) who would end up beating my Soraka from time to time, but there wasn't a single champion I had problems with going up against in toplane. Anybody who I didn't like I'd just go 'lul silenced' if they tried to engage on me, any time they tried to dive me I'd just W myself, silence them, and sometimes ult under turret. Soraka didn't lose toplane. I played nly a little of Soraka mid, but she didn't lose midlane either. She silenced mages, she stopped Kat's ult, she pretty much silenced any assassin that was trying to jump her and she healed away whatever spells they got off before her silence hit. I must have played hundreds of Soraka games in my first couple of months on League. There were days when I sat down and played 10-20 Soraka games straight. Top, Mid, Support, sometimes I got my friends to do Duo APC Support botlane before the Lichbane nerfs and we'd go pre-rrework Sona x pre-rework Soraka. By the time we both got our sheens we wouldn't lose a single trade.

Getting closer to the middle of season 4 (the 10th marks 1yr anniv.) I really just slowly stopped playing Soraka. If I wanted heals I chose Nami, if I wanted that point and click spell disable I went Lulu. Leona and Thresh were so strong that Soraka felt a little useless, more than that she felt simple and boring. It was much too easy to get an RoA, Liandrys, and Rylais and then wreck games with the Q spamming your way through a teamfight. I didn't really do anything but stand next to things so that I could smash my Q button and sometimes pop a heal. As a support Soraka slowly became one of the most boring and most braindead supports I could have possibly played.

Her rework was gorgeous. Her rework matched her lore more than it ever did before. Soraka isn't a formal celestial being she's a former celestial being. She's a fallen star. She extended her hand to help Warwick and in helping him she hurt herself. That's what her W shows 100%. In the past helping people has hurt her (in her previous lore helping the villagers by cursing WW hurt her). She's vulnerable when she helps her allies the way Soraka was naive and vulnerable towards WWs ploys. If her ally uses that heal well you're making good use of her faith, of what she put on the line to help you, if you don't you've let her hurt in vain, pretty much betraying her like WW and his dagger. Her Q is also brilliant in aspects to her lore. Not only is her offensive use of th stars what made WW stop and run away allowing her to reflect and become whole again, but like Soraka thought she was making a decision for herself ( in saving WW and in cursing him in previous Lore), Soraka's Q is a more self reflecting ability. Her offensive capabilities have always been meant to be used for the greater good (saving WW) which is why the slow on her Q (and the CC on her E) make so much sense, but at the same time her offensiveness was always something she did for what she believed was the greater good. Soraka's Q makes sense to heal because she's visually in the act of standing up for what she believes in. Standing up for what you believe in gives you strength, her Q thematically should give her strength. Soraka's stars were blinding Soraka's stars were feared when used aggressively, her AoE silence makes sense, she doesn't just call down the stars in a way that is only seen by one person, a bright flash of light is seen in an area.

Not only did it feel thematically gorgeous, but it plays beautifully. It is interactive and it feels good to use.

Really? I find myself pretty happy with the new Soraka, it went from being, to be honest, more of a troll pick that only really did stuff during laning if supporting, or just got incredibly toxic if built AP, to something with a huge presence during the entire game.

HER OLD KIT WAS FUN AND FINE

I'm guessing you don't read up much. Soraka' old kit was toxic, hence her rework. Remember Soraka mid? Or how about Soraka top? Those ideas that showed that Soraka' kit could be incredibly overbearing and downright unfun to play against. Those ideas that got Soraka nerfed hard. That is why she got reworked. And guess what, the rework is a success.

She needs some number tweaking, but at least her kit can now be balanced! I always hear whining about the Q, but for it's low mana cost and cooldown, I don't have much trouble hitting it quite a lot and healing myself for copious amounts, especially when maxing W first which increases the heal your Q deals. W I never had an issue with as in lane it's a lot easier than people say to hit my Q. In team fights, I don't try and heal everyone, I focus on sticking near my carry, use Q and E to poke and peel and W to keep them as topped up as I can. My job isn't to protect the tank, they're job is to protect us. I'll be honest with you, I love Soraka' E. The moment I see a gank incoming I drop it right at my feet between me and the incoming enemy and dare them to cross. It works wonders for disengaging.

FYI, Cho'Gath silence is AOE, just like Soraka'.

I liked old soraka too, but you're a tad late.

They only want soraka to support so they gutted her kit so that is all she can do even if now she really bad at it.
