I noticed some things: -Caitlyn doesn't completely dumpster your hp bar into the next dimension -Wait... whats this im seeing... structures take... oh dare I say it... TIME TO DIE -No one is getting blown to smithereens either -And holy shit there is an actual variety of champions played
I can't believe my eyes
there are different champs because there was a different meta
It still looks like more variety to me. I know I've only been playing for a year so who knows maybe my opinion is invalid but it still looks like it was much more interesting. The meta right now is the same picks and bans maybe in slightly different configurations and on different sides. Thats what I've noticed at least.
that was essentially what it was like back then, definitely more meta picks but there was still a small champ pool
Generally Season 3 started the meta hugging thing. LCS champion pool was small but was larger than it is today (both number of champions and % of whole champion pool) though people in rankeds and normals still played everything there was and in number of ways (on-hit Nautilus in the jungle, AP Jax, Jayce in the jungle, AP GP OP, full AD Evelynn). Today the only thing I see even in normal games are FOTM champions or most popular OTP champions, sigh.
Yeah the variety point is kinda invalid since there were just DIFFERENT champs being played, not really a whole lot more.
Where are you getting the time to die part from? SK literally just walked up and fought a turret with 0 minions and 100-0'ed it in a few seconds.
Edit. I am not saying turrets aren't squishier now I am saying that this clip is a terrible example of everything you just said. A clip of the early-mid game would be much better
Well thats kind of my point, the fact you CAN do that mid game. Not sure how effective you will be without mountain dragons but I'm fairly certain with 1 or 2 of them you can.
Another thing is if you end up with a mountain or 2 before 20 minutes because oh boy RNG in a strategy game, you can melt right through baron. Just a side note but another thing to mention with mountain dragons.
Counterpoint: Pro games are anywhere between 30-45 minutes now. So the average game length is still pretty long.
counterbreak: pro games tend to be 5-10 minute longer than normal games, due to emphasis on safety.
Combobreaker: Pro games are vastly varied due to the quality of teams that greatly varies region-by-region.
Counterina: Play somebody with hard cc and shut her down when she goes in.
Count Vlad: Mordekaiser was picked as a counter to Katarina in the EU LCS.
Count to 4: Jhin is still pretty popular in pro play.
Counterstrike: Riot catering to pro play instead of its playerbase is like a farmer feeding one 10 year old cow with leukemia instead of 10 young calves, because the single cow has tastier milk.
Global Offensive: RUSH B
Counterplay: Wait Jayce and Camille lack that.
Pro games rarely have an over-aggressive player feeding three kills to their lane opponent pre-10 minutes. We probably shouldn't gauge around what pro play is like. We're not pros. We're normal freaking players that have to deal with some rando Yasuo top that spends all game dying after claiming to be a "diamond smurf" in champ select.
The pros are a small, small, small portion of the community... and they're a part of it that will stick around no matter the game's turns because it's their job. Riot should really be improving the game for the normal players. They're the backbone of the game and the reason it's successful, after all.
That said man, full respect. I loved your comics way back when.

Notice how some people are still not at full build at 50 minutes. Gold gain has gone up and item costs have gone down.
Cait and Zyra with
!!!
Building Warmog on squishies was meta in season 3 as it was harder for assassins/mages to kill you on single combo because of 1k bonus HP. Good times.
Notice no Yasuo, Vayne, or Lee Sin
but kassadin was worse than all of those combined during that season.
Yeah but everyone knew that he should've been banned.
Good old season 3. It was the most balanced time in league history for me. Just after hecarim release. Not the piece of smelly, steamy block.

??? S5 was more balanced right after cinderhulk nerfs. You must not remember zed, kass perma ban, kha elise lee jarvan jungle meta. the game snowballed super hard off of dragon control
6 bans, and everyone know who to ban and maybe 8-10 champs considered as unbalanced. Now the situation is... 6 bans and maybe 20-30 champions considered as unbalanced :)

20-30...nice joke. It's rengar, le blanc, camille, ryze, kha zix, zac, zyra, jayce, maokai, malz, hecarim, and possibly vi. That's it. Any other champion that you think is overpowered isn't and you're just bad
Lol srsly?... So lets start this Carousel. Camillie - everyone knows... Darius - dont tell me bullsht that he is not... it is just not true Ekko - too safe, and too overloaded kit. Good player makes this champion just unbalanced Fiora - you know... Fizz - you know... Hecarim - as u said Irelia - how to make 1v2 with one item Jayce - as u said Katarina - if you think she is not op in this patch, you probably meet only vegetables Khazix - tutorial how to make oneshots : get early kill, snowball, press Q LB - as u said Malza - as u said Maokai - as u said Poppy - walking rock, hard like a rock, hit hard like a rock Rengar - as u said Ryze - a magical rock, hit hard like a a rock with magic, and hard like a a rock Syndra - i just wonder why you did not mention her. Yasuo - i just wonder why you did not mention him. Yorick - http://imgshare.free.fr/uploads/6e19096775.jpg Zac - as u said Vi - as u said Zyra - as u said Zed - ADC in 2k17...
Aaaand few words about supporting (my main role this patch) Yes supports can be also OP, if you dont even mention them, "you are just bad".
Janna - still OP AF. 2x hard CC one strong slow big shield with small cd and huge boost to AD heal on ulti her passive - Taxi Janna her movement speed
Taric - in present meta where teamfights last 3-5 seconds his ulti is just making a game. R to win E is a HUGE RANGE AOE STUN.
There are also a champions, that are OP only when playing support role like: Brand - yes, on a bottom lane there is just no mercy with brand, you burn & flame.
What makes champions OP? 1 - overloaded kit - all champions have few characteristics like: sustain, survi, dmg, CC, mobility, utility. If champion have all of those points, or most of them - he is just OP. 2 - impossible or barely possible counterplay like invisible Khazix that oneshot you (well lets say it. It is not possible to stay in group through whole game time, in early snowball ver quickly, in late makes a game. 3 - just too big numbers
For me it is 26 champions. I believe many people in league even in higher ranks can count more than 26 champions.
About a season 5 - I rly didnt like season 5 meta. It was a time, when Top was a safe place to farm, and plenty unusual picks went top buildint tanky eg. fizz. When lucian and graves were pick to win As I remember in this moment in history of league, someone invented, that Annie support is good idea. Now thanks to him supporting supports are less desirable than damaging supports.
RIP old SR, back when this game was good.
Hopefully :(
What is this love affair with long games?
It's because back in the day, you could make a monumental screw-up at any point in the game and it was still recoverable. If your carry makes a mistake at around the 20-minute mark (guessed number - I don't really play on SR anymore) these days, the game is lost.

ftfy
seriously its pretty much that bad.
I ain't contradicting that, as I haven't looked at the timers when the game appears to be lost to draw an accurate average. Just made up a number that the majory likely wouldn't find offensively early.
i just realized
didn't have a indicator? i always wondered how he got into the base...
Yeah, let's make every league game a 30 minutes farm fest again, with people only having control over losing the game rather than winning it.
better than it is today. can't even get to the meat with the game effectively ending so early.
It's even annoying to be on the winning side right now. Look at this shyte:
http://matchhistory.euw.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/EUW1/3037403061/209979663?tab=overview
That Kat lost the lane at minute 3 by giving me first blood. It shouldn't even be possible for me to get so far ahead to dominate her without even needing to fear a gank. One kill was all it took and I could take them on 1v2. Wtf is this bullshit Riot?
So you'd rather hope no one of your dumb ass teammates gets caught than have the potential to carry games with the lead you have accumulated? What kind of defeatist attitude is that?
but I want to be able to single handedly catch someone's dumb ass teammate after my team has been practically inting the whole game in an effort to turn the tables.
anddddd thats why i wanna see a new game mode named legacy queue where you can play the old good league of legend and not the bullshit new game they pushing onto us vets.
p.s. thoses extermely delicious salty tears from ocelote, they made my day, back then when i was following esports.
Oh god no, nothing is worse than games that go on for this long.
would you rather play a game for an hour
or watch a game fall apart for 20 minutes.
Personally I prefer the former.

The latter is better. If our team did badly and we lose then I can accept that and move on to the next game. A 60 minute slugfest just becomes miserable whether we win or lose.
No. League can't be like this anymore, because players are becoming smarter about the game, and therefore, things that worked back then won't work now.
smarter about the game?
Not really.
discovering/riot created more things to abuse?
That's more like it.
Let's not always blame Riot. People DO get smarter about the game. From champion match-ups, to optimizing runes / masteries, minion wave control, champion efficiency, jungle pathing, warding, keeping track of cooldowns, itemization etc. So many things that require a lot of time, data and experience to master, which are being gathered over time.
there is a / there for a reason, the / in this case means either/or
also should mention that save rune setups, (which really hardly change, except in ways that they have been for a long while) most of your points get refreshed and changed too fundamentally too often for them to be conducive in your point of players getting wiser when dealing with certain things.
