U.R.F and how our current U.R.F forgets the freedom that made us fall in love

I have never made a non-PBE post to the forms before. However, I feel that the issues with this U.R.F mode are massive enough to warrant a Discussion.

U.R.F has had some issues over the last few years. RIOT seems to not fully understand why is it U.R.F is so much more popular than all their other game modes. When one breaks it down to the basics, U.R.F is a mode all about freedom from the normal rules of league. The freedom to so without Cool Downs, the freedom to go Urgot for once in your life, the freedom of messing around with friends without having to worry about putting an hours’ worth of work into a losing game. It is this freedom that makes U.R.F so much better than other game modes. The first version of U.R.F was by far the best we’ve had in a long time. Every crazy op champion was banned by RIOT and Revive was removed…that’s it. Do you want to play a particular champion that you would never normally play? Then have at it! One doesn’t have to worry about always banning the same six champions extremely strong champions every single game (thanks to RIOT already banning them).

One not having to worry about always having a Hec or a Sona. this is what made U.R.F so great. No requirements, no rules, just action and fun for everyone. The second version of U.R.F is where things went a bit downhill. The allowing of every champion made it so that the six bans go to six mandatory champions. Hec,sona, zed, kat, brand, shaco were almost always in game or banned. there was a small, but extremely noticeable change in this Verizon of U.R.F: the freedom we have as players was lessened. No longer could one choose a desired champion if one of the OP six were available, it was a very small change, but it definitely made U.R.F feel a little less enjoyable.

Finally, the (forgive my cruel words) soulless monstrosity version of U.R.F live right now. This U.R.F is not U.R.F. Freedom has been forcefully ripped away to a minimum. Do you want to play a particular champion that you would never normally play? Too bad. Do you really want to see what Kled or Yorick would be like in U.R.F? ( I sure did) that’s easy! All you have to do is hit the 1/132 chance that you will have the one champions you want. Even worse is that one may be forced to play a descent champion that you dislike solely because the odds of getting what you do want is too low And the odds of getting a weaker champion is too high. This game mode takes every pain from the second verison of U.R.F and adds RNG (wooho). I have never seen a fair game in this current verison of U.R.F. the side with the better RNG wins, end of story. I get that RIOT wants us to try new things, but we were doing that anyway in the first U.R.F. this mode doesn’t let us try new things, it crams it down your mouth in a way that really took away the joy and fun of U.R.F

I understand that development is hard work, and that ROIT really wants to make every mode work the best it can without issues. However, this was a massive step in the wrong direction. This is like trying to polish a diamond with sandpaper. Yes, you will get the gem free of every imperfection on the outside, thus making the gem more like what you wanted in the first place. Unfortunately, you also destroy the value of the gem as a whole with scratch marks and other damages. Please ROIT, I know that U.R.F isn’t perfect. Just work on Freedom for the players. Don’t take away freedom in place of RNG. The Freedom to do whatever we want without worry of not getting the best is what made U.R.F the game mode we loved all those years ago. Freedom is what U.R.F needs to bring back my love for this mode, and game as a whole.

Thank you all for your time -M5478

The fact that it even has a different name, AR URF, means it IS NOT URF!

URF will still be URF.

AR URF is a different mode, and in my honest opinion a better one. It makes games more interesting because your whole team isn't made up of hard-carries, assassin, and tryhard champions, most of which get shut down and only one or two are even relevant on either team.

This mode still requires teamwork. And the fact that you won't always have the OP champion means you have to actually play intelligently.

Some of the games I played I got drafted champions that I would not have even thought of, and those were the more fun games.

No, AR URF is much better than Zedmode.
