Irelia is so weird to play right now
I think there were some great nerfs in S9 on irelia but she is too weak right now. I loved the removal of her disarm on her R. I also liked that they shorten the range and increased cd of her E. Her burst dmg is too low right now. She is now an assassin (dont tell me shes a fighter, she functions much more like an assassin than a fighter) that has very low burst dmg and also not very high sustain dmg. And since she is a melee, she has to dive in and auto the opponent. However, she has low survivability in teamfights due to the nerf on her w. Mages kill her pretty fast. A melee assassin that doesn't have a lot of burst dmg (takes time to kill off the opponent) with low survivability in team fights. How am I supposed to play this champion riot?
Her Q dmg to minions is also too low right now. It is so easy to mess up her Q. If her Q cannot one-shot a full health caster minion, what's the point of her Q anymore? Right now, her Q can one-shot the first full health caster minion, but not the second. You cannot kill off two full health caster minions with her Q consecutively even in mid game, so she cannot chase her opponents anymore (when her opponent is walking pass a minion wave). Titanic Hydra kinda solves this problem but not always. Sometimes TH just don't hit the furthest caster minion for some reason and then your Q just goes into CD. This is soooo inconvenient. I think it is great to make her only able to one-shot one caster minion in early game to make her less OP in laning phase. But she definitely needs it in midgame. Also, I play mid irelia a lot and I often build Sterak after tri-force so this is a problem that really bothers me.
