Won 1 placement and in bronze 2?!

So I have lost 9 of my 10 placements and I'm in bronze 2?! I know a guy that won 6 out of 10 games and he got placed bronze 5! Someone explain the ranking system plz!

Its quite simple actually. But since this is and has been explained and reexplained over and over all over the internet I'll keep it short here.

Your placements are influenced by the MMR you had at the end of the previous season. As an example, I ended last season as Gold 5 0LP. And I won 3 of my 10 placement games at the beginning of season 6. That got me Bronze 1.

Because I had Gold 5 mmr, I started my placements with a higher baseline than, lets say, a new player who does ranked for the first time. If that was the case for you, you started with an mmr equivalent to Silver 4.

So if your friend ended his last season as silver 5 or bronze 1, 2 or 3, I don't know, it doesn't really matter. The fact is that everyone has different outcomes, and its based on previous season performance.

Take Diamond and challenger players for example. They usually place Plat or high gold, because plat 1 is the highest you can place straight out of placements.

First season of ranked is much more easier then if you played the past season. If you do another season it cuts your MMR by half if i recall which makes it harder in promos.

It's not half. 1800 MMR people are not getting cut down to 900 the following season for placements. While we don't know the exact formula used, the general approximation for the soft reset is (current MMR + middle MMR) / 2. Middle MMR generally considered as something between 1200 and 1300. So for ease of math, consider middle MMR as 1200. 1800+1200 = 3000. 3000/2 = 1500. So the soft reset would put them at 1500 MMR to start their placements.

The ranking system is just fucking stupid. I don't want to carry my shit MMR from last season with me into this one. I've improved a lot as a player, won 7/10 ranked games, and STILL got b5 this season. I've stopped playing this game simply due to how stupid it is, but that's something Riot should change if they still want customers.
