Mordekaiser Doesn't Need No Stinkin DFG

I love the mast of metal Mordekaiser . He was one of my first characters and I still play him all the time. I feel he does not need any changes to his kit for him to function in his current space in League of Legends. I do think that because of the nature of his ult requiring a kill to deal maximum damage (with a clone) he relied heavily on the extra damage from DFG item 3188 and ignitesummoner 14 (and now ignite is all he has).

First off, Mordekaiser has a cool Q that is a little awkward to use. A nice quality of life change for him would be to use a range indicator like Kha'zix Q. It would also be nice that if Ahri gets the love on her Fox Fire, Mordekaiser should have his homing missiles seek new targets too (or the main source of the auto attack even?) And it feels weird to have a specific limit on the number of targets but I am not really complaining it is pretty balanced right now.

With the loss of his key item and his heavy reliance on ignite removing his versatility in summoners I think it would be cool to add a dmg amp component to his kit. Maybe his E gives a stacking debuff that increases damage from Mordekaiser up to a cap (or not). I just made that up right now, so I don't know if that's even a good idea, but if dmg amp was the route you chose then it could be along those lines.

If CC were added to Mordekaiser's kit, then it would have to be minimal in order to maintain his high damage numbers. Like attaching to his ult a mini-stun or snare that turns into a strong and tapering slow over the duration; like a reverse Wither (or DK Chains of Ice from WoW). A slow/snare is all that all he would need to compensate for losses in this case. This form of CC works with his ult because then that move is more likely to get a kill, which is its main intent in the first place (with the ghost and all).

If playing with a speed boost for Morde, consider giving it to his W. But do not take away the ability to give it to other people. Maybe only give him the speed boost when self cast.

I also had an old idea that might be stupid but whatever. Maybe his E could mark things and then he could mouse over like an Urgot or Nidalee and use his ability to launch his Q. It would be dope. BUT probably overpowered. It would also be cool to like run up and pick up his mace or something like that. More interesting gameplay though. Not sure what it would do. Pick up mace, get lowered CD on all basic abilities? ult too? I'm making stuff up as I go along, so you can tell how much I love to play this character.

I would also like to vouch for a good description of Mordekaiser that explains more about what he's made of in his lore. And it would be cool if he were taller too. Hit this up. I'm just posting this after reading through the 5.2 patch notes and wanted to give some feedback on the character I have played the most since I started years ago.

Best, KinglerKing

P.S.

I looked at the comments and compensated for the various ideas:

I agree that Mordekaiser is a bit defined by his low mobility. When he does get near someone, however, he shreds them to pieces, and I like that.

It would be cool if he gained tenacity based on how full his Iron Man shield was. Maybe have it scale up to 25 or 35% when he gets to cap. Or if he uses his Creeping Death (W) on himself, then he would gain Tenacity based on his shield while the buff is active and he could be completely immune if at 100% shield. Being a juggernaut completely without CC makes Morde pretty much countered by CC, so removing that weakness could either be just what he needs or just a little too much. Having this function interact with his ult in some capacity might be more balanced though.

As for the Siphoning Strike (E) gaining some sort of teamfight utility, what if he had a resistance shredding debuff that stacked up? Similar to Morgana's old pool perhaps? The only thing about that is a bit invisible and it might make his damage irregular and unpredictable for both those playing as and playing against Mordekaiser. Maybe only two stacks that have clearly represented markers that have some other interaction with his kit. -An idea: a target with two stacks from Siphoning Strike can be auto-attacked from further range when using his Mace of Spades (Q).

Thoughts?

Deathfire Grasp just had so much synergy and so much bonuses to his kit that it was basically a part of his kit. The 15% health hit helped SO much with getting a Ghost and the magic damage buff increased his damage and tankiness due to his shield passive and ultimate drain.

Meph, never did use DFG, so I'm not really losing much on that one, what he needs honestly is more MS.

I was just mentioning in another thread; I prefer the idea of making Morde more mobile rather than giving him CC. While I want to avoid full on Mobility Creep, what I remember from Morde's hayday was this sense of unstoppable, inevitable doom. He doesn't catch up to you because he stops you - he catches up to you because you can't stop him.

Back in this day this was because he could wade into a teamfight - the more the merrier. I used to run him in 2v1 lanes all the time. Those were the days.

So if they were to change something, I'd want it to give this sense of unyielding pursuit. The idea of a MS boost while his W is active on himself might be good. Or, maybe a MS boost if he is walking towards the target of his R.

Even better - give him either Tenacity or CC immunity (hahaha.. Yeah I know, I'm funny) when he's moving to the target of his Ult.

I made loads of posts in matter of Morde kit, and the TL;DR is that Q needs a bit more clarity, E needs teamfight utility and overall he needs to have a way to deal with slows and speed.

My personal opinion is that Mordekaiser is a juggernaut with many ranged skills, so he does not need movement speed, and i would like to avoid too CC's and stuns because the whole game is full of it, but rather give him ms reduction or tenacity and mr shred-damage amplify on his E. I don' t ask for these exact things but something on the lines of this.

Also i want to say that i never picked up DFG, too much situational and that quite does not fit in my strategy, i prefer a more sustained damage Mordekaiser ( even if a flash + Q + E + R does a load of damage).

Also, in next patch we have 2 champs that were left untouched for a lot of time: Veigar and Mordekaiser just received an armor buff at 4.5 because the runes changed, and besides that we can date up to 3.9 and so on!

I am the first to recognise that it was not an item you would 100% build because the tanky path doesn't leave you with enough slots.

But if you want to go offensive DFG was a must. Gutting a build path because of OTHER CHAMPIONS problems is plain retarded and should be compensated.
