Just a quick question. Why do I keep seeing mage supports? I hate it beacuse it makes game so unfun to play in early game. As a support main that plays (in my opinion) normal supports it's hard to win a lane beacuse someone like brand or zyra keeps one shoting you and your adc when enemy adc is doing nothing. What do you think of that situation or you have other experience?
the reason you see mages is because by design they have more damage early than most ADCs, so they can bully the lane and get kills
also the reason why you see very specific mages and not "all" are because generally speaking support is the role now where champs that can't cut it solo lane go. So you look at Zyra and Brand (Btw Brand is the most volatile champ in the game, so he either feeds or pops off) and see they can't really play mid with the amount of all in jump every where Damage, but you put them bot and they do pretty well because generally speaking there won't be any one in the lane early who can match their dmg.
I use to be a support main, honestly even as a ADC i'm still fine with mages there. Zyra is a bigger problem then Brand tbh but they both have strong damage for sure.
I mean the champs should be playable and it's clear mid is just way too much for their immobile kits so i mean it's one of those things where it's like Where else can they even be played? I guess you could lock them in as the ADC which would be fine since their kits are more similar to a immobile adc's design.
Mages are getting hard shoved out of mid atm by assassins.
Mage supports arent anything new. There was an entire like 2 seasons where mage supports were dominating the entirety of bot lane. Now that they've added the option for half the ADC roster to also play support, mages are making a comeback to bot because of the most basic rule of synergy: mages shit on adcs.
Most of what I see personally are Hook supports. But mage supports are probably going to be strong this meta.
I play exclusively neeko most of the time support since I mained support for soo long.... With the recent preseason alot of the times I'd you play super safe you can starve the mages out forcing them on cheap items or 1 big one... making them easy ko for your mid or top... I've had a Leona and a lulu recently notice they wont trade well vs me so they stayed back and farmed under tower, 20min later I has boots and 1 item to their 2 supportish items and I just fell off and became a w distraction.
I still feel like they need to add back the gold u get for minions on support items, and have it so if you build a support item, your champions damage is nerfed by a certain percent so mages cant go bot and expect a free lane.
I wish I saw mage supports, it would at least add some variety. All i see are 
The new items make it super easy to get mage power spikes.
