i used to be able to pool as soon as garen starts his jumping animation for q, leaving me undamaged and not silenced, now i was playing against a garen and i got absolutely smacked cus he kept q'ing me while i was in pool. i find it a pretty unwinnable matchup now as i cant dodge the dmg using my reaction time...
You shoultn't be letting him get in range to Q you in the first place as Vlad.

Yes, there were some fairly technical changes that created, among other things, this behavior. I won't go into details, but the general idea is that his Q is now more like a normal auto and less like a spell.
You can just pool a little earlier, before the Q animation starts. It's not a matter of reaction time, it's a matter of knowing his rotation and when he wants to Q, and pooling at the right time.
(Even with the old behavior, it wasn't consuming the Q proc, Garen could still silence you after you came out of pool.)
your e is a ranged slow. if you keep your distance which vlad does anyway by default and just walk away from him while channeling e when he runs at you with q then you can disengage easy.
also why not pool just before he is in q range then instead? what is the difference here?
