I am new to lol and I am unranked. When I played my first game of ranked against other people, I get matched up with high silver - low gold people, according to lolnexus.com. Is the matchmaking system broken? How is it fair that an unranked has to compete with high silver - low gold people?

When you complete your promos you are most of the time gonna be put in silver, unless you are really bad. During your placements they will wit you against those people to find if you are good enough to handle them

So that means if I lose like 4 more rank games they will put me with bronze people?
