Laning as Sion and his damage as a champion in general. Need help on how to play Sion in lane.
Disregarding his transition into a cookie cutter bruiser I feel like his laning phase is actually better now... but for all the wrong reasons.
I thought Riot wanted to gut AP Sion? So why is his best laning skill ap scaling and magic damage? His Q is horridly unreliable with all the dashes that every new champion seems to have and can be interrupted easily. His W is also a good skill, however it cost a lot of mana and the shield can be destroyed negating any damage, which by the way is still weaker than his E. His ultimate has an extremely long cooldown Lvl 1/2 and is better used for other things than dueling (low minimum damage since it scales off bonus AD% which Sion doesn't really have access too now that his E no longer gives massive AD)
"Roar of the Slayer RANGE: X COST: 25 MANA COOLDOWN: 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8 Roar of the Slayer ACTIVE: Sion bellows in the target direction, dealing magic damage to the first enemy he hits, as well as slowing it and reducing its armor by 20% for 2.5 seconds. MAGIC DAMAGE: 70 / 105 / 140 / 175 / 210 (+ 40% AP) SLOW: 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60% If the target is not a champion, it will be knocked back X units - dealing 150% damage to all enemies it passes through and slowing them by the same amount for 2.5 seconds. Minions and monsters cannot be knocked through terrain. INCREASED DAMAGE: 105 / 157.5 / 210 / 262.5 / 315 (+ 60% AP)"
As of now, I think his best option is to max E first and build tanky then continually poke the enemy champion with the skill. Though it's fairly easy to dodge (just don't stand in line with a minion like facing Lissandra) the mana cost is extremely low and building cooldown negates the high cdr. Players can also opt to buy Haunting guise which gives the early damage they need due to the relatively high base damage on the skill.
However going full AP sion falls off horribly since there's usually no minions around, or your team kills all the minions from AoE skills during team fights...
I'm really at a loss of what he's actually good at right now.
I thought Riot was supposed to put him on a better place than prerework sion, but prerework sion seems a whole lot better than the Sion we have now. Before he could burst down enemy champions as AP while still retaining some tankiness due to his E + Shield, or he could play an extremely scary melee ADC due to his 100% lifesteal and massive attack speed buff while healing his teammates with the R passive.
tl;dr Sion: watdo
how 2 play dis champ correctly so that he works in the meta of 5 billion gap closers and dashes?
