How to lane against Ryze as melee?

I don't know how to play against this champion.. You can't even hide behind your minions under the turret.. Never in my life have I won a lane against Ryze with a melee champion. You have absolutely no chance at farming. Can anyone give me some useful tips?

Ban it or dodge. Literally the only thing you can do

If you don't have a low CD gapcloser you're gonna get dicked, which is the situation for immobile melees against most ranged champs. I noticed you were talking about playing trynd into him and that you max Q, in that matchup you're probably better off maxing E maybe w/ 2 points in Q first for a little extra sustain.

Play back just out of range of his E spreading from the minions, and E in on/behind him and W after he E>Q's the wave, that way he has to wait for EQ cooldown to proc phase rush or root you, Your gonna want to have the lethal tempo keystone so that after you E behind him you can get several autos off on him to reduce your E cd in case he is able to get some distance and you can generally finish him off with the 2nd E gapclose.

Ryze earlyer in the game is pretty squishy especially without his spammable shield

Ryze is extremely weak to all ins if he’s harassing you under your tower and you have kill potential or a competent jungler you can easily kill him

Pick Nasus. Focus on stacking Q for 15 minutes. Don't engage, let him farm too, just make sure you are at least equal in farm. Use E to keep him at distance or W to "pretend engage" so he runs away and you can farm.

Then once you have decent stacks and ult ready, let him push to your turret. Engage with W, and E, and ult and he should be dead with 2Q and AAs or at max 3 Qs.

Buy Trinity and QSS, merc boots if you can afford. You will survive with ~50- 75% HP

As long as trynd players getting stomped I am fine with Ryze. [sg-lulu]

Considering League is a very matchup dependent game, especially for solo lanes, you need to give more information. Explaining yourself might let you know what you need to work on. Judging by the fact you're level 34 and didn't provide any additional info on how you lose the matchup, I can easily tell what's going wrong here.

I know 90% of these Boards.Na idiots are just gonna be like, "just ban/ dodge, nothing else you can do LOL", but that's just salt and the League community being stereotypically self-destructive as normal.

Things you might need to do: Go early Mercs to reduce the root/ slow. Work on your own poking patterns. Unless you are playing Darius or some other Top Spliter/Juggernaut against him, there is no way you don't have any tools that can reach Ryze. Zed, Yasuo, and even Talon have opportunities to do good against Ryze, and they are the most prevailing Melee mids.

Maybe play a few games of Ryze yourself to understand how his mana costs and cooldowns work, that way you know when is a good time to go in.

If you seriously can't improve with ANY melee champion.... then stop picking them into Ryze? League is a game where counterpicking away from bad matchups on your main is a vital ability. Without getting used to different types of champs, you'll never understand who/what beats them. Ryze is one of those champs that seems mega broken against Melee, but as with any competitive-style game (EVEN IF YOU ARE PLAYING CASUALLY), you have to analyze the matchup and see what you can do better, who would be a better lock-in, and how you should adjust your gameplan according to the opponent's playstyle.

If you want to really improve your skill, my suggestion is to never come to the Boards.na at all. The Boards are HOT garbage in terms of learning more about the game, and 90% of the posts are hate circlejerks and "haha I always ban (champion) xdddddd FUK (what's FotM to hate)" bullshit.

As a melee vs ranged you´d want a poke resistant and sustain heavy setup with added merc threads if stopped by CC ......which is bascially what some other guys already wrote but it´s really good advice so i´ll second it here.

Ryze by his very nature pushes hard. Use that against him, and obviously ask for a jungler to gank. Alternatively, if you're a melee champion that has RANGED spells (most do), ryze doesn't have a shield anymore so whatever damage he takes STICKS for lane, permanently. Losing his shield actually kinda makes his trading awful.

Of all the terrible things plaguing Top Lane, Ryze is really not that bad. I'd argue Tryndamere is much more cancer than Ryze.

As Tryndamere you just have to accept that you need to itemize against Ryze and not just run your standard build.

You need to run a runes that give you out of combat sustain and or mobility, so not Zeal or Conqueror.

As for items you can either run Hex as first item OR QSS is an option too. QSS is better if you are looking for that lvl6 all in.

Ryze is designed to kite out melee champions with a spell barrage. He is countered pretty hard by beefy top laners with sustain.

Volibear, Mundo, Maokai, etc.

Also don't stand in the minion wave when possible and he can't use it to bounce his E.

Well, let's first look at which champs he does well and poorly against.

https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/counters/ryze https://lolalytics.com/ranked/worldwide/platinum/plus/counter/Ryze/

If you look at both sites, you can tell there's only a handful of champs in plat+ games that ryze does well against. Generally speaking, it seems like champs who can get to him consistently or have powerful all-ins seem to hose him. Generally speaking there are a lot of champs that do well against him because he isn't that good.

So how does ryze want to play any given lane? Well all ryze does nowadays is abuse his QE combo repeatedly to push lanes. His biggest threat to a melee champ and the skill you need to play around is his W, the root. So as a melee champ, I'm going to say the key to beating his is waiting until he uses his W to all in on him.

Take Irelia, why is irelia so good against him? Well she can Q to a low minion and force him to blow his W there. While she's rooted, she can hit him with her E to stun him and then Q right to him. You hit your stun with irelia and he's not getting away. So her kit lets her stay on top of him.

Barso5510/7/2019, 2:43:51 AM1 votes

as a ryze main, my biggest issue is mobility, even high base MS.

Also, especially in top lane where it is an issue, I naturally push lanes. If I am not shoving lanes hard after tear, im not playing the champ optimally. So gank him repeatedly. His R has a long cooldown if he uses it to escape from ganks.

build mercurial first item so u can get on top of him asap.

Still though, against hard melee dps like zed, trynd, talon etc I rush frozen heart before tear or boots or anything. Damage output is still ok but if enemy ryze does that your better off roaming for kills.

Romans VI XXIII10/7/2019, 2:52:05 AM1 votes

If you dont have a dash you simply do not lane vs him lol. You have to hide under tower and wait for a gank, and do your best at not letting him freeze lane.

Be Aatrox or you're fucked. Oh wait, his sustain and waveclear were nerfed last patch, nevermind.

Neptunia xoxo10/7/2019, 6:41:32 AM1 votes

Play to survive lane and get as much CS as possible without getting punished too much for it. Also stop playing Trynd expecting not to get counter picked.
