Let's Talk Azir

Azir. The champ once abused in LCS. Most agree he's the hardest champ to play and master. Since his days of power, he's been nerfed hard. Currently, he is a champ who can still carry if in the right hands, but he is much weaker than his glory days. I am learning Azir right now, and I've heard that he might be changed again. They might rework him to either keep his long range but remove the long dash, or remove some range and make him tankier. I'm not sure what's best for him, I think he has a lot of potential and is a fun champ, so comment what you think should happen to him.

43% winrate is hardly "fine".

For me, the biggest problem with him is what should be the biggest problem with assassins: massive risk with a decent reward. With all the nerfs to his kit (the inability to use w to damage turrets, and the shorter time on his ulti), the ability to actually get him to a point in which he can be dominant is ridiculously hard compared to other "scaling" picks like ryze (who at just 2 items can combo-kill pretty much every squishy midlaner who hasn't built MR) anivia (who has arguably easier wave clear and far more reliable cc to get kills with) karthus (whose ability to "infinitely farm" combined with his ulti makes for easier gold) and even cass (who has a better "payoff" for hitting 6 items and can also sorta infinitely-farm with e spam).

Around the top 0.2% or less of the global playerbase does well on him by the nature of the fact they have hundreds of games on him and/or are almost entirely Master/Challenger tiers. The other 99.8% are generally garbage on him.

But the issue is, in his current state and kit, he cannot really get buffs without risking breaking him at a competitive/pro-play level. The bigger need is for him to get a rework and parts looked at. The easiest and arguably best way would be to remove his dash as it removes one of his many aspects of safety (long range DPS, his passive tower creation, his dash+shield, his ultimate) and removes his hypermobility. Then it'd be a lot easier to balance him as he'd have to play smarter and safer to not risk dying/getting easily jumped on and killed whenever his ultimate is down.

He is not "in a fine spot". He's been in a limbo state of bouncing between broken in competitive play beyond belief and garbage in anything else, until the most recent few nerfs killed him hard enough to take him out of pro-play events as well for the most part.

Oh, I suppose you are right about the rework. Idk, I just think he's really fun and want to see him be as good as he can be, but if reworking is best for him, then let it be done.

I think that he's fine right now, massive DPS, waveclear, self peel and mobility, it's obvious a hard champion would have a low winrate. If anything should be changed it's that his ..um..wait..he has loads of damage and an escape if things get too rough, nothing should be changed. Maybe a longer time that his ult wall stays up but that's about it.
