Taliyah Passive Question

I'm wondering why Taliyah's passive requires you to be near walls. The visuals of the rock surfboard, the sound, and the speed up all feels very satisfying to me. But I have to spend a lot of time and attention micro managing Taliyah's pathing - I can't just click mid on the minimap, for example, I have to spend an extra few seconds making sure she gets near the edge of the lane and stays there as she paths. This often means that I can't pay attention to a different part of the map; I can't watch what's happening bot lane, for example, to decide if I should help there while I'm making sure I stay near the wall. Alternatively I do watch, and I lose the power of Taliyah's passive. Any players have a guess as to why Riot made Taliyah's passive this way, or any rioter who cares to give insight?

Thematically she's supposed to be Rock Surfing. Using the walls to form a wave like in her splash art. The passive movement speed she gets from being out of combat is pretty damn potent. I would rather you have to do something specific to get it.

I don't have issues keeping near a wall while also watching the minimap to see if someone needs help but that might stem from me being a Support main....
