Riot, your matchmaking is garbage

I'm a new player and i'm EXTREMELY disappointed in the matchmaking system. I've been playing for 2-3 weeks and i can't describe how much i hate the matchmaking right now.

I'm a noob with 60 wins ( just reached lv30) and get matched with players that have 1000+ games. This is really frustrating because it's not fair that an UNRANKED BEGINNER like me, has to play against a PLATINUM player in lane. Absolutely unforgivable, fix it.

The matchmaking system is FLAWED because it's solely based on the MMR which is only based on winrate. So, basically you can be a complete noob, but get carried to a HIGHER MMR than what you deserve. At the same time you can get brought down to LOWER MMR than what is your actual skill level. This is extremely detrimental to my experience and leads to UNFUN games.

I couldn't believe every MOBA had this trash matchmaking so i did some research. Here's what Dota2 matchmaking looks like:

  • The teams are balanced. (Each team has a 50% chance to win.)
  • The discrepancy in skill between the most and least skilled player in the match is minimized.
  • The highest skill Radiant player should be close to the same skill as the highest skill Dire player.
  • The discrepancy between experience (measured by the number of games played) between the least experienced player and the most experienced player is minimized.
  • Each team contains about the same number of parties.
  • For example, the matchmaker tries to avoid matching a party of 5 against 5 individual players.
  • Players' language preferences contains a common language.
  • Wait times shouldn't be too long.

Riot you can learn a thing or two from valve, seriously.. Not accounting for the NUMBER OF GAMES when matching players against each others is a SERIOUS FLAW and should be fixed IMMEDIATELY.

Here's what my last game looks like: My team: Me(ahri): 64 games won Draven: 981 games won Xin Zhao: 787 games won Lux: 657 games won Yasuo: 407 games won

**Enemy team: **Udyr: 266 games won Zed: 1235 games won Kog'Maw: 736 games won Shen: 520 games won Thresh: 951 games won

And let's not count how many of them were Silver/Gold/Plat, when i'm only an unranked noob. Do you think this shit it's fair to match me in these kind of lobbies? http://imgur.com/3jGKXcg Honestly i hope my ranked experience isn't like this, because i will straight up quit the game. And it's not like this rarely happens, basically 90% of my games are like this or even worse. http://imgur.com/1b6q4bd

Seriously riot, you have a lot of money.. Stop making skins and work on PLAYER EXPERIENCE for once.

And don't get me started about smurf accounts.. Oh dear..

Edit: Today i played vs a 2700 games won Diamond Yasuo and a 2200 games won Platinum Jinx. Something really has to be done for this, seriously, i don't understand why nobody complains about this more.

I hope that at least your team isn't always made of boosted animals like me. And yes I agree

Are you talking about normal games? Because that matchmaking is calculated differently and is not going to be as well balanced as ranked matchmaking because a ton of players stop playing normals after hitting 30 so their skill improves but according to the normal system they haven't changed much.

Thank you for your response, i'm glad to hear that it's a normal games issue only.

I just want to say I understand your frustration. What you say is true, Riot's match making system is garbage. I have the opposite problem. I get matched with team mates that are a lower skill level than me 90% of the time. Iv'e had a lot of bad games recently, because I've given up. I don't even try anymore as soon as it starts going south. As for match making, MMR shouldn't be based on wins or losses. It should be based on your individual KDA and Level (ex. Gold). That way you'd always be matched with people who have your similar KDA and rank. Games would be fair and competetive. But Riot doesn't care, they actually program their match making system badly on purpose, so that low skilled players always get matched with high skilled players, making both players suffer (they secretly do this so low skilled players win games every once in a while, keeping them playing). You see, they want as many people playing their game as possible, they don't care who gets punished for it. It's like you said though, both the high skilled players and the low skilled players have a bad experience, because it's not FAIR. It's too bad too, because they have a really fun game designed, except for the match making. Oh and btw, ranked match making isn't any better regardless of what others say. It's even worse in my opinion. Anyone that disagrees with me is probably paid by Riot to say so. I can't stand those players that make up garbage like, "you just have to play better, obviously you aren't good enough, otherwise you'd be able to carry yourself out of your elo." Then they say something like, "I just stayed positive and got better and went from Bronze to Gold in a month." They are all Riot paid employees lying to you, so you keep playing their game. One day a company will come along and do a MOBA right and delete Riot, who stopped listening to their players long ago.

This! QFT - KDA/played games matchmaking at least regarding players that are somewhat new (under 2 month accounts)

At first i thought you were talking about ranked. No Ranked works differently, i havent been paired with anyone to far from my ranking. Also despite what people here claim. Plat player can suck more than a bronze.

Lmao you are bronze

Yes, he is

I didn't know that thanks

A plat player can indeed suck more than a bronze, if and only if:

  1. plat player is playing with locked camera, no hotkeys and no quickcast
  2. plat player is simultaneously first timing both a champ and a role while the bronze is on their main

I literally never mid, but when I spam Brand in normals, I destroy the silver or gold mids I get put against (including stuff like Fizz ) until I start getting camped. And even if I get camped, I sometimes just walk away with a double. I also have 1v1ed bronzes and would often have 5x their cs and 3 kills ahead in 10 minutes even if I never played the lane before or they cheese me and make me go to the wrong lane so I arrive 2 waves late.

And that's just mechanics. Strategy is not just not in the same league, they aren't even playing the same game.

I lost to a bronzie in mid lane once... When their Vi was constantly ulting me and the bronzie was twisted fate. feelsbadman. Still won in cs though cause they can't cs lol

I had a fun Yasuo v Yasuo game on my level 27 account where I put no HUD, locked camera and hidden names and still managed to beat a Diamond 2 player in a team of one D2,2 G1 and 2 unranked, when my main is Silver. I can say the gap isn't as big as in other games like Dota.

Interesting, that is even possible. Why would Riot allow a bronze level player even rank up as plat? Hmm. Maybe cause their matchmaking system is garbage. Oh, and Riot knows this, they just don't care. They actually do it on purpose. The guy starting this forum is 100% correct.

My friend is having the same problem

Trust me, I played Dota for a while and quit after two weeks. You will get stomped early rock-bottom, as if you don't know what abilities of enemy hero do, you will immediately die or go in the confusing jungle into the enemy team. Also ranked in placements you will be starting at S2-S3 Level, and then climb or go down depending on W/L ratio in 10 games. Also your first 5 games count more than the last one, as winning first 5 is better than winning last 5 and losing others. Also, I have a level 27 account too and it immediately put me with Diamond-Plat players and I had a fun time in quite balanced games. It is because of normals MMR but don't worry after like 50 ranked games you should be put (if no 5 or 4 man premade) with players of your skill level.
