Im silver2, getting matched with high plat and low diamond in my normal matches

I am currently ranked silver 2 in season six, i do not played ranked that often. ALTHOUGH, in my normal matches, over the last few weeks, i have been being matched with players from gold to diamond 3, most games are gold and plat varying but maybe 20 or 30 percent of games i will see a few diamonds. Is this normal matchmaking for everyone? Is this a sign that i ought to stop playing normals now and go onto ranked matches? Why am i not being matched with other silver players?

Either they never play normals and their normals MMR is at silver level because it's been that long or you are high normal MMR and your ranked stat doesn't reflect it because you don't play ranked.

Play a ranked match and depending on who gets booty blasted you'll know which is which.

Ranked and normal queues have separate MMR rankings.

The main possibilities are that:

  • Your normal MMR is higher than your ranked MMR
  • Their normal MMR is lower than their ranked MMR

Both are rather common situations and it is probably a combination of the two. Honestly, players who are heavily into ranked will play normals less frequently and will often use them to learn new champions or as a warm-up game, so their normal MMR may be a bit lower accordingly.

Honestly, I'd probably start playing more ranked games if I were you. At the very least, you should be able to hit Gold 5 fairly easily and qualify for season rewards.
