Once upon a time the game would be auto dropped if no player was in the game after 5 minutes. Not sure if that still happens but it is possible.
Checked on this with some friends in S2 against bots and the game auto dropped. That's all i have for reference.
I think it would work the same way a custom match would. Say you were 1v1ing someone, and no one would connect, the game would just end.
