I AM AVERAGE AND ALL I WANT IS A GOOD GAME REGARDLESS OF WINNING OR LOSING

Ok Riot, League of Legends community, I've spent the good part of a decade playing this game, being reasonable, being unreasonable, doing my above and beyond effort to be kind, and even at some points raging. I am just like anybody, I am not special, this is my opinion based on the environment I have played in for a good part of my life.

In the time that has passed the community has only gotten worse and worse, with no evidence of focus being placed on this vital part of the game. It's literally so bad that not only is every single game potentially toxic due to players attitude, even regardless of winning, the report system in place LITERALLY DOES NOTHING TO PREVENT THIS BEHAVIOR FROM BEING APPARENT EVERY SINGLE GAME. Often times the responsibility is put on the individual gamer; it is your attitude that affects the game, your skill, your outlook that changes the outcome. I humbly disagree, though I will say that initially you should ALWAYS inspect yourself before others, ALWAYS. FACT OF THE MATTER IS THOUGH it isn't any one gamer's fault for the community being this way, and it's rarely every ONE PERSON'S fault for throwing a game (intentional feeding aside), IT IS ENTIRELY RIOTS FAULT AND THEY NEED TO PUT THEIR NECK ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK INSTEAD OF ALLOWING THE COMMUNITY TO RIP ITSELF APART.

TO MY UNDERSTANDING, BASED ON COMMUNICATION WITH RIOT STAFF: There are currently in normal matches 2 considered facts when places players with other players (in ranked its 3 because of your rank): Your level, and your MMR which is based on wins. In no way do they account for: player toxicity, player skill, a players language/region, or the amount of reports on any given player. This was done ON PURPOSE because Riot believes that all players should be put together in order to not single anyone out, and to allow toxic players to and I quote "conform" responsibly. The only mention of solution is of this 'island' where all toxic players go, and seriously I have no idea how this is the only alternative that seemed remotely practical. I have no idea how it got so fucked up. I honestly don't care. Fuck what made it this way, what matters now is CHANGING it. The condition of the community is aggravating; what is SERIOUSLY upsetting though is the responses from Riot employees as to what to do to fix the problem: "Use the report system". Not only this but EVERY RESPONSE FROM RIOT EXPLAINS THEY ARE COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED BY THIS SYSTEM.

LET ME JUST STATE THAT CLEARLY. THEY CANNOT HANDLE THE PURE MAGNITUDE OF REPORTS FROM THE SYSTEM IN PLACE, YET THEY ADVICE USING THE SYSTEM IN PLACE. Seriously, like what the actual fuck?

The community is literally designed to put toxic players with non-toxic players with the ASSUMPTION that after being reported, and assumingly "dealt" with, they will start to just change their attitude when given the same chances as everyone else. LIKE, WHAT? THIS ISN'T JAIL. THERE IS NO REHABILITATION. THIS ISN'T A SOCIAL EXPERIMENT. IT'S A FUCKING TEAM BASED GAME. WHY WOULD YOU MIX PLAYERS WHO CONSTANTLY REFUSE TO COMMUNICATE WITH PLAYERS BEGGING FOR COMMUNICATION? Toxic players, make more toxic players, make more toxic players, make more toxic players. Rarely can one person remain calm against so much toxicity, and even when doing so this doesn't actually prevent anything from reoccurring. THE ONLY THING THAT STOPS TOXICITY IN ITS TRACKS IS HAVING TOXICITY REMOVED BEFORE IT IS APPARENT. What does that mean exactly?

Simple. Put a vote to kick feature in the lobby. Allow players to leave a lobby without being banned. Allow THE NUMBER OF REPORTS A PLAYER HAS TO ACTUALLY CAUSE EFFECT IN GAME. This could be ANYTHING from being put with similar teammates for a couple games, temporarily lowering MMR, the level, even giving a stupid little symbol that shows you've been reported too much. Hell just changing the report system to allow reports TO BE DELIVERED DIRECTLY TO A PLAYER WOULD BE SOMETHING MORE BENEFICIAL THAN WHAT'S IN PLACE. ANYTHING TO ALLOW PROACTIVE AND EVIDENT RESULTS TO SWAY MEMBERS FROM BEHAVING RUDELY AND FEELING ABSOLUTELY NO PAIN WHEN DOING SO, OR RESPONSIBILITY TO DO THE RIGHT THING. The suggestions can go on and on, frankly I'm tired of suggesting what to do and being told to use the report system, this is my final and only rant I hope to post on this forum.

THE GOAL SHOULD BE EMPOWERING RESPONSIBILITY-- NOT STRIPPING AWAY THE POWER OF RESPONSIBILITY. Seriously, make some changes that actually matter Riot.

Lastly I'd like to thank every single player that puts up with trolling and toxicity by responding with kindness and patience. This is the only power good people have left, it's all we have in the face of adversity. Never stop being this way. Until Riot changes you people are our only hope. Help us.

Question: Are you sure you are not confusing the report system and the "support request" service? The former is mostly automated now with the exception of play-bans. The latter is always overwhelemed as the nature of the system means it has to be handled by humans.

As for the rest, in summary, you want a proactive punishment system in place instead of a reactive one. I think most everyone will agree with you, it's needed. However the 'how' is always the case where people stumble. The vast majority of negative people one runs into in League are not regularly toxic, or if they are they keep it to themselves unless they have a particularly bad game (I can attest to a few of my friends being that way). Simply, a proactive system would need to be borderline psychic to jump on people before the damage is already done. And if the damage is done, the 'proactive' part is a failure.

As for player empowerment, I'm glad you consider that an option and an obvious one at that. I agree with you we need more options to allow positive players to make a difference and neutral 'silent' players an option to be a bit more. However all of your suggestions save the leaving lobby without consequence is still reactive and does nothing to help the people in-game with the ass-hat in question. Just like the current system.

Sorry to be a downer here, but it really isn't as simple as you think it is.

Also, it is kind of a social experiment. Seeing as there hasn't been a 'locked-in' competitive game of this size before in history. You get unique issues that manifest that require experimentation to address, as there are little to no precedents to draw from.

That's a very interesting thought I never considered, and I am most likely confusing the two. Thanks for that bit of knowledge. I'd really just like to see any sort of action being taken to directly heal the community, instead of questionable mentions of half baked ideas like mine or prisoner island or whatever. Honestly I hate having to complain, and after asking what it is I could do and what I could expect that's all I feel I can do: complain. Also I hate to agree with you, but it's most likely true, it always is, it's totally not as simple as I think it is. That's the most painful fact I think, thinking you know exactly what's wrong but not having any potential, let alone knowledge, to put those thoughts into action. I guess my motivation comes from asking Riot what I can do to help, because I wanted to know how I could put any sort of idea in tangible space. After being told that continuing to report and using the boards to express my thoughts is the only thing I can do, I've definitely lost a lot of my logical bearings to think clearly. It's unfortunate that as an individual I cannot do more for the community except complain, roll over, hope, and wait for change. At least, that's the feel.

Believe me, I know how you feel. But the nice thing is there are also good, positive people out there. They're just not going to, by nature, be as in your face about it.

The funny thing is on your point, "That's the most painful fact I think, thinking you know exactly what's wrong but not having any potential, let alone knowledge, to put those thoughts into action" I think Riot's behavior team is with you there. Like I said, there's no real precedent for a community of this nature and size, so Lyte and his team are treading unknown waters. Granted they have doctorates and experience the average player doesn't, but you gotta figure out a bunch of ways that it can't work (prisoner's island), almost work (Honor Initiative), and then finally do work before you can say you have it down.

As for the individual contribution, yeah, we're drowned out by the masses and there's only so much either side can do about it. My best advice is to work hard towards making yourself more noticeable through projects like a youtube series and the like. It's a lot of work and few people have the time/resources but that's where creativity comes in. I, for example, run a champion concept contest here on the Boards. There are also others who do programs like Factions and Riot vs. Community. The nice thing about being a positive influence is that you don't have to hit the problem directly, you can just contribute back to the community in general. :)

Great advice, great attitude. I really appreciate your thoughtful responses! Definitely a light at the end of the tunnel man, I now have things to brainstorm. Seriously though, people like you save this game, great job on keeping it all together.
