Daily Reminder that a Mercy System would be amazing

I remember seeing this post a while back, heavily supported by the community.

I am reminded of it due to my last ranked game. During a potentially game-winning ace with baron buff, our fed Ashe walked into the enemy nexus turrets at about 35 min, to the ring of "A Summoner Has Disconnected." No big deal, she'll come back, right? Nah. We proceeded to hold out for 10 minutes and lose a heartbreaking game which should have ended in our favor.

A mercy system would be a godsend, as no should be penalized for a teammate's connectivity issues. I don't know what progress has been made looking into such a system, and I'm curious as to whether it's still a future possibility.

I know everyone has to deal with 4v5s occasionally, but it would make it much less stressful / depressing knowing the opposing team could offer mercy. Conversely, if the other team is a man down, no one likes a stomp. While a win is a win, it feels entirely hollow knowing one side is at a blatant disadvantage.
