Spellthief's Edge or Ancient Coin

So... I main Morgana support and where as this is an AP champ everyone likes to start with a item 3303 ... I've started playing with an item 3301 instead due to the faster gold income and sustain... I just want to see how others feel about this choice and if they have a solid reason why...

Here are my thoughts...

item 3303 gives you 25% base mana regen, 5 ability power, 2 gold every 10 seconds and 5 gold up to 3 times when you hit an enemy champ with your abilities...

item 3301 gives you 3 gold and 5 health whenever a minion is killed near you and 25% base mana regen.

so in short you get the same mana regen to start with, you get health when a minion dies, and as far as gold goes you get more faster... (in 1 minutes with item 3303 you only make 12 gold, after 4 minions die near you with item 3301 you earn 12 gold)...

please give me feedback as to why you agree or disagree with my option...

All I know is that item 3303 should not give gold on damage over time abilities like Morgana, Brand or Cassiopeia have.

It should be on the first instance of damage from an ability only.

But it depends on what you want to do in the long run.

And item 3098 gives more gold in the long run then item 3096 given that it is 36 gold in 30 seconds if used to it's full effect compared to about 31.333 gold in 30 seconds.

Spell thief you get +10 more dmg when hitting a enemy, and can make 42 gold per min, vs 36 gold per min with coin.

its what they build into, spellthiefs is much more efficient on her with the ap then the movespeed boost. The active slow can be used to set up a really good q or ult, the active for talisman isnt really your job. You aren't the initator and that health regen from dying minions will be useless to you after level 8 or 9 as your passive provides enough healing at that point.

In the games I played as Morgana since the items came out I've tried both and the results weren't convincing either way. If you're playing a passive lane go coin, if you're going aggro the other.

I think coin works on basically any support and is never really a bad choice. personally i take spellthiefs on morg but eventually sell it either for the talisman upgrade once i leave laning phase or just for a different item entirely.

Depends on the lane. Morg is played usually for the zone potential and her black shield. Spellthiefs gives you extra damage per proc, which makes it much better than Coin if you're going to play aggro poke lane. (Plus, Morg already has innate self sustain and the sustain on coin will net you only 30 health per minion wave.)

I've done the math, and Spellthief's nets you more gold as long as you get as many procs off as possible (which isn't hard especially with her soil). The upgrade to Frostfang nets you quite a lot more gold compared to medallion. However with the recent buffs, coin is definitely a lot more viable. And the sustain combined with your passive makes it really hard to force you out of lane solely with poke.

However, I do think that FQC is a better final item compared to ToA for Morg because it syngerizes with her ult much better. Morg is not really a push a button and make everyone run fast kind of support. Plus FQC grants you 50 AP, which helps a lot since you're also half a midlaner as well.

But it really depends on if you think you're going to be playing aggro or passive in lane.

((Also, don't sell your gold income item. D: There's no reason to sell it unless you've run out of item slots. You will forever need the gold income to help you keep up in money to buy more wards and items.))

For Morg spellthief is just too easy to get the money from to not use. She can pretty much always pop the stacks instantly as they come up with almost no risk, so I'd definitely keep with it. I do like coin on several supports, but Morg is one that seems to be fine sticking to one item. Frost Queen also goes nicely with her ult if you choose to upgrade it.

I find that(IMHO) item 3301 is much better than item 3303 in all aspects. The fact that it doesn't matter whether or not the minion is killed by your ADC to gain gold already makes it better in terms of income. Plus, that movement speed buff when you get item 3069 is really handy when used to either engage or disengage a team fight. Plus it allows for more sustain with the increased HP and Mana Regen and the healing for being near a minion death. However I have to say, on a champion like Morgana, you might want Spellthief considering you can build it into item 3092 which synergizes quite well with her ultimate. Ultimately though, it's up to your personal preference.
