A Discussion on MMR

There's no reason that normals and ARAM should have an MMR system. Why not just let everyone who is level 30 play against one another regardless of skill level? I play normals for fun and so I won't have to play with/against other High Diamonds/Masters (because lets be honest you're all great at the game but some of you are the most sensitive, unfun people I've ever played with/against.) It feels like I'm being penalized for being good at the game.

Cause why would a bronze want to play vs a Diamond? In what world what that be fair or fun for them? Ya it'd be fun for you cause you'd shit stop them but for them it'd be awful.

It's not always about winning or losing

In League of legends, it's all about winning/losing. It's a competitive game that has a ranking system that separates the inexperienced players from the experienced.

If your hidden MMR is high in normals, you should be playing with high MMR players, period. It wouldn't be fair for low MMR players. Now, mmr will most likely fluctuate if you queue up with a low MMR player. The Matchmaking system will most likely find another High mmr player with a low mmr player on the other team. Which helps balance out the total MMR between teams.

If Riot removes MMR, there will be inconsistencies between skill levels that will be hard for low levels to learn. Different levels of mechanical skills, game knowledge, etc. between players will cause games to be hectic and brutal. Not a great experience for both high skilled and low skilled players.

In that case, the most experienced player would be the best league player and that's not the case. There are people in bronze and silver who've spents hundreds of more hours in this game than I have.

I understand this from the developer side in order to retain as many new users as possible so they don't get discouraged by getting stomped by someone in the top 1% of players, but what about the players who'll enjoy the challenge of facing someone several tiers above them? If winning is so important, why is the majority of the user base in bronze and silver?

ah you mean the insanely minority who doesn't give a damn about the game in the slightest. Yeah, riot should def listen to people who would rather have chaotic, unbalanced and frustrating games over those who want to have fair but fun matches.

Casual players may spend hundred of hours in the game to have fun. They don't spend hundred of hours learning from mistakes they've done throughout their games.

If winning is so important, why is the majority of the user base in bronze and silver?

There are many reasons why players are in bronze and silver.

  • They are inexperienced with the core mechanics of the game. (Which is why you, HFG Yolo preferably want to play against, so that you can personally rack up as many kills as possible.)

  • They could be casual players

  • Players that want to improve their game by playing with/against players of the same skill level in a competitive environment.

  • Trolls/Intentional Feeders/AFKers/ect.

  • Players who smurf

  • Time consumption. (Grinding ranked games)

The list goes on...
