State of Vel'Koz

With the upcoming balance changes to Syndra and a few other characters on the way for patch 5.18, I'm curious as to what's in store for our favorite (or not so favorite) squid.

From the time of his release, players never really seem to have caught on to him. I feel like he could potentially be a strong mid laner, but due to his awkward scaling damage revolving around his passive and somewhat sub-par ratios, he just never became the role I know rito intended him to be. I also feel like he plays the fantasy role of "giant lazer beam alien" rather well, but could perhaps use some balance love.

Thoughts? What are some experiments you'd like to see done on our resident void scientist? "Thank you for your contribution" Velkoz

He's the balanced sleeper OP champ that League needs, leave him be.

Vel'koz doesn't need changes or buffs. He's a perfectly strong champion.

Vel is good, he is just misunderstood. As is, people still think that damage=good on him. His ratios scale terribly, and things such as Liandries, Ludens and Void Staff work far, far better than deathcap.

Nothing is more satisfying than melting a turret-hugging Ahri from 20 feet away

i consider myself a really good vel', and i have to say he revolves around his E knockup, if he lands it, proceed to W and then Q, and then laser beam their face, and probably get a kill.

aside from that if im just wave clearing, then E the casters then W, auto or Q the melees pending positions. or ill W the wave twice and that'll get it cleared.

overall i think hes awesome sauce, that bonus true damage is amazing for everything, i actually feel powerful on vel koz like my damage matters as a mid laner.

and nothings better than catching a bunch of people with that NENNNENENRRRRRR ultimate.

I have to chime in a bit on his place in ARAM. I always do well with vel because of his range and his skill shots are easy, plus no one knows how to avoid them (I'm exaggerating, obviously) but I think he would could be better balanced, as could varus, xerath and other long-range champs on ARAM. Shorten their long skills for ARAM at least, like vel's Q, and give him some kind of temp shield when he ults based off of % max mana or something since he can't move and everything has knockup/stun/silence/interrupt. Just for ARAM.
