7 Wins and 3 Losses and put into Bronze V?? Placements Rigged?

LifeArrow··3 votes·5,349 views

How does winning 7 Games in a row and only receiving 3 losses constitute me being Bronze V? I had games where I secured the safety of my teammates and our team objectives, even games where I had not one death.. I even received the Great Teammate Ribbon during my placements. I do not understand how I got put into Bronze V, please shed light into this major confusion of mine.

-Thank You, Sincerely, LifeArrow

Your MMR last season was equivalent to Bronze 5.

Uh no.

Afks aside, you'll eventually be adjusted to the rank that you truly deserve. Hang in there! :)

Lugg1 votes

I have to call BS on the "eventually be adjusted" thing. If you get 7 wins in placement, you should be Gold for sure. If you don't belong there, you will fall. It's MUCH easier to drop ranks than to gain them, so Riot should definitely place you higher vs lower.

GroundRuleDouble2 votes

This is if you've never played ranked before. It's only a soft reset between seasons, not a hard reset. How you did last year does matter for this year's placements.

Lugg2 votes

That completely assumes someone didn't improve at all during the previous season. The ranking system makes it harder to climb than it is to fall. You can play a game perfectly and lose because your team sucks.

GroundRuleDouble1 votes

You can also play a game like garbage and have someone else carry you. Don't see your point.

Lugg1 votes

Oh, I agree with you. That's why people shouldn't be allowed to duo during their promos. That keeps the garbage players from being carried to high Gold/low Plat.

Neo Cyrus5 votes

That's completely and hilariously false. The ranking system since S3 has been designed to make it easier to climb than fall. There are bonus MMR gains for winning streaks, but there isn't additional MMR loss for losing streaks. On top of that it's near impossible to get demoted a league. A single large winning streak gives enough bonus MMR to recover from several divisions of MMR loss. If that wasn't enough this season they give you a free win in promos if you've been there before.

You know what else? They have dramatically lowered the MMR requirements for each league despite the average player at any given Elo being ridiculously worse than in the past due to inflation. In the past 1350 Elo was the requirement for Bronze, anything below that was unranked. 1350 MMR is roughly around what is required for Gold these days, it's 1400 at best.

Your MMR last season was closer to 0, definitely under 200. "Bronze 5" is never Bronze 5, it's always people who have lost way too many games are far below the new Bronze 5 threshold of 850 Elo. Even if you win 10/10 you should be placed Bronze 5 since that gap in Elo is greater than an entire league, it's more like 2 leagues worth of Elo.

To prevent confusion they really need to create a league below Bronze then allow unranked below that.

I think you misunderstand several things about how the system works.

Yeah, you get bonus MMR for winning streaks, but that is pretty rare. The more games you win in a row, the crappier teammates you have to carry each game. If you manage to win 5 straight, you are going to end up on a team full with feeders and trolls pretty much guaranteed since you will be paired with the lowest MMRs in your division. This is because as your MMR goes up, you become the top MMR player on your team. So the system pairs you with the lowest MMR guys to balance it out for the team you are going up against. It really doesn't matter how good you actually are when your team feeds like an all--you-can-eat buffet.

On the flip side, losing streaks are absolutely devastating. If you end up on one ( which is easy since you are now getting stuck with crap players), it literally takes MONTHS for your MMR to recover. MMR for divisions fluctuates continuously. This is why you end up with so many garbage players on your team so often. This is why they had to lower the requirements for each division, the ranking system has been so broken like this they had too.

The players that reach high ELO do it entirely from duo queue's 95% of the time. Several pro players have tried to climb out of Bronze intentionally and have said that it's incredibly difficult. That is why they duo, it lowers your chance of getting a horrible teammate by 20%, which is a HUGE advantage. Plus their duo q partner is just as good as them, so it makes it so much easier for them to get ahead and win games against the guys who are only able to solo q.

I know the next thing you are going to say is: "Just find a good duo partner". That isn't always possible since some of us actually have real world responsibilities such as work, school, etc. and it's hard to be able to find the right times to be able to duo with someone. Once again, this is something that makes ranking up even harder for the average player.

I guess I also need to point out that you looked at this account to see my MMR. This is my smurf account that I use to play with friends that are in Bronze. This was my main when I first started League. Once I started to learn how the ranking system worked, I realized that you shouldn't play ranked at all until you have really gotten the game down. Once again, this destroys most players since your MMR end up so bad while you are learning the game that you can pretty much never recover.

So the best advice I have seen is to not play ranked until you have a very solid grasp on the game. You can then go into ranked and rise up since you won't go through the phase of having a crap MMR that severely slows down your ability to rank up. So they don't need division below Bronze, they need to keep people from being able to play ranked until they have played X amount of normal games or have reached X amount of wins in Normal. That would do two things, keep horrid players out of ranked and have players who understand how to win in games in ranked

Stopped reading here, that's complete stupidity, the more you win the higher your MMR the higher MMR players you get matched with. If you have a harder time it's because you're matched up against people you can't handle. I've seen your games and stats since you've complained on the boards over the years, you're the problem 99.9% of the time, it's you, you alone and no one else.

If it's everyone else that's bad, and not you, then it favours you because over enough games statistically they have a 20% higher chance (5 players) of getting a shitter versus your team (4 players).

You are completely delusional and far beyond help. Enjoy yet another season of Bronze 5 even though your MMR is nowhere near high enough to deserve that rank on your "smurf".

Stopped reading here,

And this is why you have no clue. You read something and once you get to something you disagree with, you just stop. If you had read the entire post, you might have actually learned something.

Also, the other team doesn't have a 20% higher chance. They will most likely have someone with a MMR the same as yours.

Neo Cyrus1 votes

Do you have brain damage or are you just playing dumb to troll? The enemy team has a 1 in 5 higher chance to get a shitter if you're not the problem as you claim, which you are. As in they have 5 randoms, your team has 4 randoms plus you. Understand? No? Then go back to the game of putting the cube into the square slot, you can move onto speaking with people after you pass that.

Lugg2 votes

When the game calculates the MMRs of both teams, they will try to get them as close as possible. So if you are highest out of the ten, you will most likely get stuck with the worst player of the ten. In which case that person is automatically over-matched whoever they go against. At the same time you will automatically have the advantage, but you never know if that is the case until the game is far enough underway for you to feel out the opponent.

The problem is (the majority of the time) is that worst player on your team will more likely feed harder than you will be able to overcome. The number of variable is pretty mind blowing when you start to realize them all and it is nowhere near as simple as you are trying to make it.

I understand why you have the opinion you do, I thought the same for quite awhile until I learned more from articles and experience.

Jesus Christ man you live in a fantasy world. You are the one causes the losses in your games. You. 100%. No question about it.

Lugg2 votes

So, when I have 3 people on my team go 0/10 and I am 4/0 at 10 minutes, it's all my fault that I lost.

I think everyone knows which one of us is in the fantasy world.

Neo Cyrus1 votes

Yeah because that ever happens. It's not like you're hard throwing and off in your own world imagining that you're carrying.

Zero Skill Tank1 votes

No, no and no. Placement matches take your old rank into account, even on fresh account it is hard to get to gold after placements. System actually makes it easier to raise, what leads to ELO inflation in the past and was one of reasons that they introduced leagues and divisions.

Placement's are not about getting new division based on your win/lose ratio, it's just small boost to make up for MMR drop after reset. Even with 10-0 you would be extremely lucky to get bronze 3.

Lugg1 votes

I understand where you are coming from, but it's not realistic. If you can maintain a 50% win rate, you will probably rise to Challenger level. So if you get a 70% or better win rate in promos, you definitely need to be in Gold +. Sorry, but if you get 8 or more wins in promos, it probably isn't luck. Pro players have tried playing in Bronze last season and agreed that climbing out of Bronze is brutal. If they have problems, imagine how bad it is for an average player who is good enough to be High Silver or Low Gold.

People should definitely be placed on the higher side if the do well in promos. If they get placed too high, they will drop to where they belong.

Even if it is not luck, bronze player plays his placements with bronzes. How winning 8 games in bronze 5 suddenly makes someone gold?

And it could as well be pure luck, you get even longer streaks out of luck, 12-13 wins/loses once a year is pretty normal. When you normally get 1,5 - 2 divisions out of it, why the hell placements should give you whole 2 tiers? Giving B5 players free gold would only remove sense of achievement from getting ranks and nobody would want to climb tiers anymore.

Not true at all. I have played my promos after being Bronze the previous season and I faced DIAMOND players in 3 of my ten games and PLATS in 6 of the games. I still went 6-4 and got demoted anyway. I should have been placed Gold by any sane system.

You ended last season with 80 LP in Bronze V. Judging by your match history, you were probably gaining small amounts of LP for wins and losing more for losses. Therefore, you had a pretty low MMR in Bronze V. Let's assume that you had a 400 MMR at the time of the reset (could have been higher or lower). A soft-reset hits ([1200+400]/2=800. Your MMR is now 800 before your provisional games.

For reference, 1200 MMR is widely accepted to be the difference between Bronze I and Silver V (but we don't really know this).

Now, you lost your first ranked game after the reset. This more-or-less put you in a "losers" bracket. Since you only had one ranked game this season, your MMR dropped significantly (much lower than the 800 you had before). Think of it like your first test grade in school. It's your only big grade, and you've only had a lot of small assignments before that--if you fail the test, your grade will drop, and you have to work to improve it.

Now, since you lost your first ranked game, you have an uphill battle. When it was all said and done, you won 7 games (good job!). This was calculated into your MMR which was 800 (probably 600 or so after your first game--maybe worse...we don't really know). You were placed into a tier based on your MMR. It seems as though most people are placed into the division just below where there MMR would put them. This could be because after the reset, the average MMR in each tier are defaulted back to normal, which is probably higher MMRs per tier than at the end of the season.

Anyone who argues that the placement matches aren't totally broken and entirely pointless is just retarded. Yes I'm b5, but this isn't my only account and I have maintained a 50% or higher win rate . Did that matter nope still b5.

EXACTLY, i went 8-2 and still got bronze 5 even tho i was a high bronze last season and practiced to get better for this season's ranked. Why are there even placements if they don't place you based on performance they just place you based on your skill level an entire year ago...

If you were already Bronze, it is not surprising you'd be left in Bronze.
