Why Iron players in higher tier Silver?

I just lost promos from an Irelia feeding a Renekton 7-1 in the first 15 minutes. I went into the players profile afterwards and saw they were an Iron 1 player. Even in the preseason video it discusses the different difficulties and strategies of the various tiers. I don't understand why riot has made it possible for such a team comp.
